Hello all,

in my agent the line length is set to 72 characters per line
and everything works almost perfectly. :-)

But sometimes there are situations where I want to write a "very long
line" (e.g. program code).

Can I override the default of 72 characters per line in the agent for a
certain area of the message?

noch recht klein und überschaubar; die Hardware
dagegen war relativ groß und unhandlich.
Heute ist alles irgendwie anders.

I also have a line length which naturally splits this line when it
gets longer than that.

I don't know if you want to start all of your long lines with ">"
characters (or paste them as quoted), but you can see that it works.

However, that's exactly *what* I don't want! :-)

Look here - it also works *without* ">"! :-)
However, for such an action I have to use my little *Hamster*, which is a small and local mail and news server. This Hamster is also programmable.

So the agent should be able to do it too - right? ;-)

Usenet (NNTP) Protocol is based on lines of around 80 characters (72
allows for about 6 levels of nested quotes). Same as pure Email protocol
(for the most part, the two are identical except for "To:" vs "Newsgroup"
headings).

Longer lines, really, need to be defined using some MIME encoding. I
can't help specify which... https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2646.txt
(format-flowed is something that was late in coming, but may not resolve
your situation -- you don't want hard wraps on send, and don't want soft
wraps on viewing).

BASE-64 encoding would avoid the hard wraps on sending, but may require
special treatment by the recipient to decode.

1. You can override the default for an individual message, but not
for a certain area of the message.

For those cases, I hand-wrap the rest of the message. To make
this easier I have an ASCII ruler in my Agent signatures which I
insert before manually rewrapping, and remove before sending.

2. A work-around is to take advantage of the fact that Agent only
wraps at spaces and tabs. This work-around is good for ASCII
diagrams, but not for code which you expect someone to copy and
paste.

Compose the special part of the message in an external editor such
as Notepad++. Then do a search/replace to replace _all_ spaces
and tabs with NBSP characters (code 0xA0). Finally, paste the
text into Agent.
