Updated roadmap has been posted: https://vmssoftware.com/about/roadmap/

V9.2-1 planned for H1 2023, including...

.... AMD x86-64 processor support has been added to the roadmap.

.... Native C, C++, Fortran, and COBOL compilers for x86-86.

V9.2-2 planned for H2 2023.

Standard support for V9.2 ends when V9.2-1 ships.

Yearly release cadence starting in 2024.

Interesting.

So C, C++, Fortran and Cobol are just around the corner
23H1.

But since they are not mentioned then Pascal and Basic
are not around the corner so 23H2 or later.

Java 8 is also expected 23H1.

No mentioning of Java 17 which must mean 23H2 or later.

Which I think is a small slip (except for Java).

Yearly release should be fine. The VMS world is not really
interested into super-frequent VMS upgrades.

I can see it, and click on it, and I'm in Firefox on Linux. It does
nothing. I think it's more of an html anchor than anything else.

John,

I would hope that "annual release" does not refer to patches. OpenSSL vulnerabilities need to be patched together with other OSes. Otherwise, there will be issues with ongoing security compliance.

What the Roadmap says for OpenVMS v9.2-1 is that it will include "SSL3
built-in." It's a little cryptic but I'm pretty sure that has to mean
that they will be moving from OpenSSL 1.1.x to OpenSSL 3.x as part of
the base OS install. Some layered products are already beginning to
require OpenSSL 3.x as a prerequisite.

Patches to OpenSSL will obviously be much more frequent than annual
since that's what they've been doing already, e.g., OpenSSL 1.1.1s and
3.0.7 kits were released in the last few days. They haven't always been
up to the minute, but the release cadence with VSI is vastly better than
anything that ever happened in the CPQ/HP/HPE era.

The Roadmap clearly states, "VSI expects to release new operating system
versions on a yearly basis after 2023" so the annual thing obviously has
nothing to do with patches or layered product updates.

Based on current practice there is every reason to expect
frequent OpenSSL patches.

Annual releases must be 9.3, 9.3-1, 9.3-2, 9.4 or whatever.

Simon.

Good to see the updated TCPIP and OpenSSH will be available for I64. I've been waiting for those.

I note that the 'OpenVMS x86 Server I/O' section is no longer present but indicated in the list on the left.
