I have lots of little 1" cubes that charge phones, but a) Are there
Quick Chargers that are small like that?

b) Are quick chargers bad for the phone's battery?

Also, c) I've heard that most little ones that you get cheap are bad in
some way, but I don't know why, if it matters to me.

TIA.

there are, known as gan chargers.

<https://www.androidcentral.com/best-gan-chargers>

yes, but the phone will likely need to be replaced for other reasons
before the battery needs replacing.

the noname chargers can be bad since they're not built to the same
quality standards and in some cases, can shunt mains power to the
phone, which is definitely not good. there have been a couple of cases
where the phone caught fire and at least one death. the output is also
not well regulated and may cause problems, although not fatal to the
owner.

No. Charging a battery is a chemical process. This process generates
heat. It has no negative effects as long as the temperature of the
battery stays below 40°C.

Shocker of all shockers... out of billions of iPhones, there was "at least
one death" from the charger electrocuting the Asian lady.

Clearly there are more than just one death, but this is perhaps the one that
nospam was pointing out (even though the risk of death is negligible).
*Apple Probes Alleged Deadly iPhone Electrocution*
<https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/apple-probes-alleged-deadly-iphone-electrocution/story?id=19669136>
"July 15, 2013 X -- Ma Ailun, a 23-year-old Chinese woman, picked up her
iPhone 5 to answer a call while the battery was charging and was
electrocuted last Thursday, according to a report from Chinese
news outlet Xinhaunet. Apple is looking into the report."

Given the billions of chargers out there, deaths are gonna happen.
*Thai man reportedly electrocuted by charging iPhone*
<https://www.zdnet.com/article/thai-man-reportedly-electrocuted-by-charging-iphone/>
"A man in Thailand has been reportedly electrocuted while using
his charging iPhone."

But wait, there's more - but in stuff like this, there are unknowns.
*Family of shock victim to Apple: We demand answers*
<https://www.zdnet.com/article/family-of-shock-victim-to-apple-we-demand-answers/>
"The family of a Chinese flight attendant who appeared to be fatally
electrocuted by her Apple iPhone look to its maker after police
found no faults with the charger."

And more... (as will happen when you have billions of devices out there)
*Another iPhone shock case in China leaves man in coma*
<https://www.zdnet.com/article/another-iphone-shock-case-in-china-leaves-man-in-coma/>

True to its mantra of never giving a shit until the shit hits the fan, and
also true to one of the most brilliantly sleazy marketing coups ever known
to business, Apple "offered" a niggardly two-month ten dollar replacement
program for knockoff chargers (where, if Apple actually gave a shit, it
wouldn't be for a measly two months given the problem is forever and, ten
dollars was _more_ than the price of a _far better_ charger than the crappy
Apple charger.

But Apple pulled it off in one of the sleaziest marketing moves ever.
Apple turns even dead people into a Marketing bonanza (for Apple).

a) Zillions of them. If you are wanting to quick-charge just a phone, a
15-18W charger that supports your phone's scheme will do. If you want to
get crazy and quick charge something like a laptop then you'll want
something a bit beefier like one of the GaN (gallium nitride, which
describes the chemistry of the power semiconductors inside the charger but
you probably don't really give a crap about that) types that can provide
way more power. I have a relatively compact GaN unit from Amazon Basics
that can provide something like 85W but no phone needs that but there are
even more powerful ones. I'd recommend that you look at Anker chargers and
find one that fits your size, cost, and size constraints. I've never had a
problem with any of their charging products. Certainly <$25 would seem
appropriate.

b) Oh, on the battery front, if the phone's internal charging and
protective circuitry is working properly your battery should be safe since
it handles stepping and tapering the charge and keeping within the safe
parameters.

c) Yeah. Most of the little cheap ones are really throw-away items and
should probably be thrown away sooner than later.
