On 7 March AVTware, EuroVMS, BGSoftware and user group Interexperience, organized an OpenVMS-event in Eindhoven (NL).
There was a good turnout with 60 people from 8 countries.

We had presentations by Jan Magnusson and Adam Hoff-Nielsen of VSI about their company, long term strategy and roadmap.
Then Camiel Vanderhoeven gave an overview of the challenges to move from VAX/Alpha/Itanium to X86, and meanwhile keeping all programs compatible.
Before and after the lunch we had 2 database-presentations by Wolfgang Burger and Jan Karremans, followed by a life OpenVMS on VMWare ESXi-demo by Thilo Lauer.

I am curious whether the people from Denmark was from VSI
or there still are VMS customers in Denmark.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's then VMS was huge
in Denmark (universities, telcos, industrial etc.),
but I thought they had all left VMS (unlike Sweden).

The VSI presentation has a few interesting points:
* revenue and profit and R&D of VSI parent company
are all growing [!!!]
* plan to hire more people (in Armenia) for compilers
* [as we already knew] native C++, C and Fortran field test underway
* native Cobol and Pascal "moving better than plan"
* OpenJDK "moving better than plan"
* [no mention of native Basic timeline]

It sounds like VSI got the engineering priorities
right. VMS x86-64 is there. Now we need the (native)
compilers.
