We have some large files (5-10G) created on the MCP that is needed for a data warehousing product and was wondering if anyone has used either MCP FTP or other 3rd Party software and can share the information and experiences.

The Unisys FTP and SAN DataMover are taking a long time for these files to be pulled or pushed from the host to the WIN Server.

PKWARE is being used on IBM Iseries and is often compared to the Unisys is there exists one, or is in the works.

Appreciate the feedback and tips. Thanks in advance
Val

SAN Datamover via shared disk works well and is much faster. I developed a utility some years back to automate the whole process, so that it could be driven by a WFL job or Supervisor.

I am confused about the reference to PKWARE. In looking at their product offerings, I don't see anything that "moves" data. Only secures it.

PKZIP/SecureZIP from PKWARE that runs on the iSeries host that you can compress files for FTP (.zip)

It's someone ironic if Unisys (Clearpath or Libra) don't offer
compression utilities and/or API's given that they're the
assignee of Terry Welch's 1985 LZW patent (4558302B1), for
which Unisys were roundly castigated in the 90s.

Yes, but remember that (a) LZW was originally developed by Sperry for
disk compression on its 1100/2200 systems long before the
Sperry/Burroughs merger, and (b) the primary compression algorithm used
by Katz's PKZIP is Deflate, not LZW.

Deflate is actually supported by MCP systems through the DEFLATE_DATA
and INFLATE_DATA procedures in the WEBAPPSUPPORT library.
