Will the talks lead to Ukraine staying independent? It would be preferable, not that VZ is a good leader. Will the talks wind up in a "surprise breakdown" and not a true peace?

I don't know. I don't see the economics of why brutal international villain Putin would stop without achieving his goal. It would be pleasant if he would stop taking over Ukraine, even though it would prove me to have made a wrong prediction! Note, I never said I was sure, and acknowledged my lack of expertise. Good news would be better than being correct in this case.

There is no way to be sure yet. If it were me, I would flee Ukraine immediately, still. I don't know everything though. I just don't see why Putin would stop given his mentality.
