I got this offer from my phone:

Faster, richer higher quality chat on wi-fi or data

(Do you recognize what I'm talkig about?)

But it wanted permission. That means I might not want it? Do does it
cause problems?

It's likely "the phone" wants you to enable RCS, but beware it could be
something else, maybe a screenshot of what it's actually asking?

<https://jibe.google.com>

If you enable it then all your SMS/MMS messages will go via google instead of
via your mobile provider, provided the other person also has RCS enabled, it's a
bit like Apple's iMessage.

Supposed advantages ... encryption, photos for free (some parts of the world
charge for mms, but not for sms, I suspect most folk get more than enough sms
bundled for "free") see when someone is actually typing a reply

Don't know, I've never enabled it, I rather have my text messages go via the
company I pay to do that, rather than one offering to do it for free ...

I don't need that. It's amazing how tempted I was, mostly because of
the font they use, and whether the words were had outlines around them.

I had to remind myself not to blindly say yes. It's compounded by the
fact, ifyou dont' say yes to all the permissions that apps you install
ask about, it kicks you off the app. So they have me in the habit of
saying yes, but I resisted this time.

Okay, that's good enough for me. I rarely chat and when I do, neither
of us are in a hurry.

If you want to chat and use rich content like photos and smileys there
are much better alternatives. In the US Facebook Messenger has the
highest penetration.

And beware: RCS cannot gurarantee end-to-end encryption. Chatting can be
real fun!

I don't understand that part. Everyone seems to care, but I never say
anything important.

Yo do: You are a money-spending consumer and you have a political
opinion. Both is important. And telling your friends, partner and
relatives that you love them is even more important but not other
people's business.

RCS is in a way the successor of SMS which Google tries to spread. It is
a technology nobody needs except Google.
