Just a silly that I have ignored for years. It was the same with the
setup for work, and is still present with 9.2-1, and now bugs me!

I have both sys$announce and sys$welcome logicals defined:

$ sho lo sys$announce, sys$welcome
"SYS$ANNOUNCE" = "@SYS$MANAGER:ANNOUNCE.TXT" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)

"SYS$WELCOME" = "@SYS$MANAGER:WELCOME.TXT" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)

Both files exist, but when I login using SSH, I get the welcome.txt
displayed when I login, but before I do, I get:

Using username "townleyc".
Pre-authentication banner message from server:
| | @SYS$MANAGER:ANNOUNCE.TXT
End of banner message from server
Authenticating with public key "XXXXXXXXX@XXXXXX"

followed by the text in welcome.txt

If I set host from another node, or with set host 0 both are displayed
as usual

Both files exist, and have w:re protection

How can I get SSH to display ANNOUNCE.TXT ?

Wait for the fix? A report on the VSI forum might not hurt.

I believe that I reported this (among other things) about a year ago
for the E9.2 field test:

For me, the 404 error is preceded by a 401 (unauthorized) error. Most
likely support tickets are only visible to those who created them and to
VSI staff, so sharing a link doesn't do much good.

I don't think this is new. I an fairly sure it happened on IA64 wit HPE
V8 with TCP/IP Services many years ago. I doesn't happen on AXP V8.4-2L1
with Process Software TCPWare

I always felt it was something I hadn't correctly setup, rather than a bug

I suppose. It does include the ID, "sps-636", which might be of some
interest to someone at VSI when you report the problem there. Other
complaints there were:

"1 failure since last successful login" (plus OPCOM "Security
alarm" message, and so on) when publickey fails before password
succeeds.

Too much info from "show proc /parse": "Soft CPU Affinity: off".
(Fixed in E9.2-1.)

'ssh -V' must be 'ssh -"V"', even with with "Parse Style:
Extended".

Field-test software can be very entertaining.

Process SSH for VMS will display your SYS$ANNOUNCE/SYSWELCOME.
However, if there are any esape sequences in those messages, they are
not interpreted and display as \033[xxxx which is a bit disappointing.

If that is deliberate and not an oversight, then well done to whoever
thought of that.

Do they also block Ctrl-E (and any other non-printable characters) ?

Simon.

Looks like this has been a known restriction for a long time with SSH. Maybe
a workaround using SSH_BANNER_MESSAGE will suffice.
