I transferred my Agent data files over to a new
computer, following instructions someone
posted earlier.'
The groups show up, although the Subscribed Desk
folder does not...the groups are there but not
in the Subscribed Desk folder.
But my real problem is that while the groups are
there, and I can retrieve new headers, whenever
I try to read a message I get the error:

No servers in the access plan carry
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action. (example)

TASK: Get selected bodies for comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action
SERVER:
TIME: 8/31/2021 2:07:12PM
STATUS: Failed

I get this error trying to read any messages
in any group.

I've checked under FOLDER the Properties, Property Schemes and Default
Properties and under all of them are checked the names of my two usenet
providers....Newsgroupdirect and Newshosting.

I am at a loss of how to fix this...almost ready to uninstall Agent and either
start over or try something like Easynews which uses the browser instead of a dedicated newsreader.
And I've used Agent a long time and purchased every update they had.

If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be very grateful.

Oh, and the reason I'm posting this with Google Groups is that Newshosting will not let you post for thirty days, and I simply can not get a hold of them to allow me to post. I try to log-in my account, and the tab at the top says
https://controlpanel.newshosting.com with a blank screen. There's no phone number to call. I tried their support from their main web page...there's an email option, and after I fill it out and check the "I AM NOT A ROBOT," the Captcha pictures keep coming, and it doesn't allow me to create a ticket.

Is there any way to post messages from my other usenet provider, which is Newsgroupdirect and NOT Newshosting?

Thank you.

Sorry for this long message.

You can create a Subscribed Desk and then put the groups
into it.

To create a Desk: Folder >> New Desk

To put the groups into a Desk:
1. Select all the groups
2. Use the menu "Folder >> Assign folders to desks"
3. In the pop-up, select the desk or desks to put the groups in.

The desks are stored in the AGENT.INI file. In the AGENT.INI file,
each desk has a list of folders (by UID 0xxxxxxx) but not the folders
themselves.

If the 0xxxxxxx.DAT and 0xxxxxxx.IDX files were transferred but not the
folder settings in the AGENT.INI file, then the desks would not go across
with the groups. The same would happen if the 0xxxxxxx.DAT and 0xxxxxxx.IDX
files were renamed when being transferred.

1. Go to "Tools >> Servers and Accounts" and make sure both of the news servers
have a check-mark in the setting "Enable server for online operations".

2. Make sure you update the Newsgroup Directory so that Agent knows these
news servers carry the group(s).
* Tools >> Newsgroup Directory >> Update Directory
* Click "Select All"
* Select "Download the complete list of all newsgroups" (the other option,
"since the last update", can be flaky and that is not an Agent problem)
* If you want to, select "Download newsgroup descriptions"
* Click "OK"
* Wait for the newsgroup directory to be updated.

3. On the 'News Access Plan' panels ...

If the 0xxxxxxx.DAT and 0xxxxxxx.IDX files were transferred, but not the
server settings in the AGENT.INI file, it is possible that the groups are
configured with the server UID numbers from the old AGENT.INI file and not
the server UID numbers in the new computer.

Hence, it is a good idea when you first check under FOLDER, to explicitly
save the settings on the 'News Access Plan' panels. If 'Apply' is greyed
out, change something and change it back.

4. At "(select group) >> Folder >> Properties >> News Access Plan"
there needs to be at least one server which has *_both_* of these set:
(a) A check-mark on the left
(b) An asterisk on the right - indicating the server carries the group.

You can change the posting server here:

* Folder >> Default Properties >> News Access Plan
* Select the "Posting Messages" tab
* Put a check-mark in "Override the Retrieving Headers servers list"
* Move Newsgroupdirect to the top of the list
* Make sure Newsgroupdirect is checked (at the left) AND has an asterisk (at the right).

Note: If there is an override set in any of these places
(select folder) >> Folder >> Properties >> News Access Plan
Folder >> Property Scheme >> (select scheme) >> News Access Plan
then that will also override this. Either turn off the override, or
also change this setting *everywhere* there is an override.
