I just bought I bluetooth receiver so I could send music from my phone
to a home build amplifier circuit.

The problem I have is that my phone does not see the bluetooth receiver.
Should it or doesn't it work that way.

This is what I bought:

Looks suitable, does the USB receiver have a button (or combination thereof) to
enter pairing mode?

As Andy noted, the first step is pairing.

Pairing is black magic in many situations (where you just have to RTFM).

The second step is swearing because the steps are often overly convoluted.

There is a third step but you usually don't need to go there.

Yes it does but according to the destructions you have to press and hold
the multifu8nction button until alternating blue and red lights blink
until a voice massage says "connected".

This does not happen as when I press and hold the said button , it
powers off the receiver

Yes I know it has to be paired , but first it is not seen by my phone

Perhaps the device is defective, unless it's pairing with some other
device before it can pair with your phone.

Pairing with your device:

Press and hold the MF button until alternating blue and red lights
blink and a voice message “connected” is heard. The Bluetooth
pairing name is AV:Link BTR1 and if your device asks for a pairing
code the default setting for this device is 0000.

Yes I know but that doesn't happen, as there is no voice message and
pressing the MF button just powers it off!

What if it needs to be off before you press and hold the button? My Sony
headphones work like that.
