I think this is an Android question. This is certainly the most related
ng I know of.

When I got this rentacar and conected the phone to the radio, I was
tickled how much I could listen to from t he phone via the car. Recemt
newscasts!

But now, for example, the list of PBS Newshour shows has the last day
March 4. It's been that way since maybe March 4. I'd like to get later
shows. Today is March 17. Anyway to make the phone, or the car radio,
come up with amore recent list?

No idea what head unit you have, or what subscriptions it has.
Presumably "phone" means smartphone. If the head unit won't deliver the
content you want, go to the source of the content. Hell, in rental
cars, I don't like what I see for maps, so I use Google Maps (and
sometimes Here [weGo] maps) on my smartphone. I don't need to pay for a
subscription to a map database.

You cannot visit:

https://www.pbs.org/show/newshour/
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/live

on your smartphone's web browser? I see articles there that are
definitely later than March 4. If you don't like using the web browser,
PBS also has their apps:

PBS Newshour
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.p2371GE

PBS Video: Live TV & On Demand
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pbs.video

If all else fails use the website. This week's episodes are on the main

FWIw, I have Here weGo on my phone, I like Here weGo, but it doesn't
appear in the list of apps that work with Android Auto. Neither does
Maps.me, that I also like.

This thead was not about maps, but fwiw, the only maps that will appear
on the car radio are google maps and OSM, Open Street Maps. OSM worked
as intended for a couple weeks, but then it started going into night
mode, even all day, which I find much harder to read. There is only one
setting on the radio screen but it's not relevant, so I've been to the
settings on the phone. There are 4 settings, iirc Day, Night, Dawn to
Dusk, and one other. It was set to day. I changed it so I could change
it back, but it was still in night mode. Once in a while it changes to
day mode but only for a little while.

I could use Google maps on the car radio but it's a stripped down
version, with only maps, no gas stations, restaurants, laundromats, etc.
and when you use it on the radio, you can't use it on the phone at the
same time (I'm sure they could change that but things take time), so I
keep it on the phone only.

Yes, I could do these things and I appreciate the reminder. And I got t
he Newshour app. But let's look at the original question another way...
Why is it that it had a list of episodes, but the list doesn't get
updated, even when there are newer ones. Where does it get the list in
the first place? It must be the phone. The situation for each radio
program is a little different. Some have gotten partially updated. In
the case of the PBS Newshour, I didn't have the app but there was still
a list, just one that stopped 13 days earlier. Tune-in may be involved
in that, but if it gives the list, why doesn't it update the list.

Another complaint wrt podcasts is Android Auto allows one to pause a
program, but if you take the phone with you when you leave the car, you
have to start from the beginning again. EVen if you leave the phone on
and connected by USB, when you turn off the car, it was the same thing.
If you're 30 minutes into a 47 minute program, you lose your place and
there's no way on the radio to fast forward. Maybe if you had started
from the phone you could do this, but when I first started using this
car, I used the car radio. I thought that's what it is for.

I suppose they will resolve all these things wihtin a few years.

So, where is that list. You were talking about listening from the phone
through the head unit or radio to hear the phone's audio from the car's
speakers. What were you using on the phone to select the PBS news
casts? Where was this list?

> it had a list of episodes

What is "it"? A list in some app on the phone? Or in some app in the
car's head unit (but then you wouldn't need to connect the phone)?

You're going from your phone using some unidentified app to feed the
phone's audio to your car's speakers, is that right? If so, the problem
is with whatever phone app you are/were using. If you identify the
phone app, someone else that uses that app might know why the list of
news casts is not getting updated, like maybe you configured the app to
only use wi-fi connections instead of cellular, and you need the app to
use cellular when in your car.

On the Windows newsgroup someone said that the op just opens random threads
for fun. If that's true, you're wasting your time dealing with a troll.

Not my impression of micky. He asks before researching. His modus
operandi it to not provide details when he starts a discussion, and you
have to dig for them.

Not a very clever approach in the Usenet.
One thing is clear: micky needs at least one smartphone-problem a day.
Otherwise he or probably she is not happy.

Sometimes he does after several replies.

Sometimes he does, but usually he doesn't return to inform the
respondents what solution he chose.

> And he probably doesn't even have the issues he is asking about.

Even if he doesn't, the responses might be of help to others. After
all, look at all the posters that dump their newsfeeds into Usenet, or
blather on with diary entries about what they did today, or how they
solved a problem they never asked about and not in response to anyone
asking for help.

Maybe, or he's just more prolific than you care for.

Nope. MANY first-timers, or even rare-time visitors, will ask a
question, get responses, and you never see them again, or not until they
encounter another problem with which they need help. They get answers,
one of them works, and they're gone. No update from them. Or none of
the answers are applicable or don't work, and they don't come back to
say the answers didn't work, and don't bother to ask for more answers.
They might want to do something, are told they can't have it their way,
so they don't bother to continue trying to get further help on a
solution they've been told doesn't exist (it was an answer, but not one
they wanted). Not everyone visiting Usenet is a regular inhabitant. It
was a venue for seeking help, not a place where they want to reside.
There are many reasons someone posts, but doesn't return.

When micky posts here, likely he hasn't looked elsewhere for help. To
him, it's easier to ask here than to try multiple search criteria to do
the research elsewhere. This is his go-to destination rather than the
Web. Ever see those posters where you just feel like saying RTFM. The
info was there, but they won't read. Sadly, humans have degenerated to
where their attention spam is shorter than for a goldfish.

https://time.com/3858309/attention-spans-goldfish/

micky figures why should he waste his time and effort doing research
when he can get a more focused community to coalesce that info for him.
Some, like me and you, see micky as lazy. micky probably perceives it
as being more efficient. Alas, he mars that proficiency with lack of
details in his starter posts, and not all respondents are willing to dig
it out of him. He'll give an excuse that the details aren't germaine to
a resolution until pointed out otherwise.

Oops, a keyboarding typo: "n" and "m" are right next to each other on my
QWERTY keyboard. "Attention span", not "attention spam".

Of course. I knew it was a typo and I knew what you meant. Just a
little joke.

When it comes to typos, I think I'm the king of typo makers. You don't
see too many of them here, because I catch most of them by
proofreading before I send the message.

(I was pretty good with this message. When I proofread it, I only
caught and corrected six typos.)

No, I've been in Usenet for 30 years, and posters asking for help and
not coming back to update is hardly a rare event. Usenet regulars
typically return. Newbies typically don't.

Your lecturing sucks and is very wisenheimerish. I'm in Usenet as long
as you are.

I did not lecture. I was describing *my* experience in Usenet.
Obviously yours is quite different, or you don't remember the drive-by
posts. At one time, I was visiting way over 100 newsgroups. A few
years ago I trimmed that down to about 50. Now I'm down to 22. As
Usenet volume has waned, so have the drive-by posts simply because
newbies don't come here as often. I didn't limit my experience to the
last few years when it's mostly regulars visiting here, but they still
do show up.

If you ask someone in the store to help you with buying something, do
you really go back to the store to tell them it worked? Positive
feedback is more rare than negative feedback. It works, you move on.

That's a *lot* of newsgroups. I've never had anywhere near that many.
I can't imagine having enough time for that many. At the moment I have
12 that are active (and three of those are only semi-active, with very
few posts, mostly just from one or two posters), and I'm still
subscribed to a handful of inactive ones (just in case).

I can't remember what the greatest number I ever had was, but it was
somewhere around 20.

Yes, it's a rare newbie these days who even knows that Usenet exists
or what it is.

Yes, much more rare.

I always write up a solution whenever someone helps me on Usenet.

In fact, I have written so many tutorials that even I can't count them.
My point is that the most helpful people _do_ write up solutions & thank
people.

But you're dealing with morons like Joerg in this thread, and they don't.
Nor does the OP who is a troll and the _proof_ the OP is a troll is I asked
the OP long ago to stop trolling the a.h.r group and do you know what he
said?

The op told me he had every right to troll that newsgroup.
That's truly what he said (ask him if you don't believe me).

In the end, I got about a half dozen trolls kicked off that newsgroup.
And I got Paolo to ban the newsgroup altogether (as he did for a.c.f).

At some point I gave up trying to get people like the op banned from their
servers as it wasn't worth the trouble. I just left the newsgroups.
