Question for Ralph or anybody else - I am using Thunderbird on two
different machines and have archives on #1 (some of which are 10+
years old) that I would like to port to #2.

I know how to do a file copy backup of Thunderbird e-mail folders but
what is the best way to move these backups into folders on machine #2?
I am planning on moving them into new folders not porting the messages
into existing folders.

T'bird discussion is obviously OT... but (as a TB user as well)
copying *content* of one profile into the contents of the other
profile should mesh/merge/implant whatever to create a Super Profile
containing all.

But back each and every component up first...

A. If the archive e-mail folders are inside Local Folders or a POP account

Each e-mail folder (say "GolfMail") in Thunderbird corresponds to two
files on your hard drive ("GolfMail" with no extension and "GolfMail.msf").

Just copy the file with no extension from #1 and put it somewhere inside
Local Folders in #2, before starting Thunderbird #2.

B. Just in case the archive e-mail folders are inside an IMAP account.

Mail folders in an IMAP account are a bit "special".

Best thing would be to use Thunderbird #1 to copy (or move) the e-mails to
a folder or folders inside Local Folders on #1. When that is done, close
Thunderbird #1 and use 'A' above to move the copy from Local Folders on #1
to Local Folders on #2.
