<snip>

Two issues are:

a) the Google Fi plans, even at the new lower price points, are still no
bargain. The "Flexible" plan is $17 plus $10/GB. Contrast this with U.S.
Mobile with is $15/month, including 5GB of data with unlimited talk and
text, and also offers international data plans (but not international
SMS). U.S. Mobile is available on either Verizon or T-Mobile.

b) the primary networks for Google Fi are T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular so
geographic coverage is limited (see <https://i.imgur.com/irqFqyP.png>).

The included 5GB of tethering on Google-Fi is a good deal (on the
unlimited plan), as is raising the high speed data limit on the
unlimited plan to 35GB. The unlimited plan is not a bad deal as long as
you're on an Android device and as long as you are okay with T-Mobile's
much smaller U.S. coverage (see <https://i.imgur.com/irqFqyP.png>).

Visible is really a better deal for true unlimited, even though the data
speed is capped at 200 Mb/s. Hotspot is unlimited at 5Mb/s.

Also note that Google Fi still doesn't support 5G or Wi-Fi calling on
the iPhones with 5G (12 or 13 and presumably on the new SE3 2022). Other
features are also limited on iPhone, such as no Wi-Fi calling. See
<https://guidebooks.google.com/fi/phonesonfi/useyourownphone>.

There's been some sort of dispute between Apple and Google regarding
full support for Google Fi on iPhone. There's a workaround, but it's not
pretty, see
<https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleFi/comments/q8jbr7/enable_5g_wifi_calling_and_hd_voice_on_iphone/>.

That is simply ridiculous in the age of 5G and Wifi 6 and is by no means
"unlimited".
