Hi Admins,

The news.freedyn.net server will be shut down on June 31, 2022.

The server has been available to users free of charge since 2014/2015.
Unfortunately, there have recently been various problems with the
filters that are supposed to block floating and spam. The cleanfeed is
actually configured in such a way that a maximum of 4 crossposts are
possible.

However, in the last few months there have been many users from the USA
and Russia who have used the server to send SPAM. A lot was blocked, but
also some not.

Another point was a backup script that ran amock in March and generated
a large number of floats.
Unfortunately, the INN config contained an error, which made this
possible and older articles were not blocked.

Since I haven't managed the server directly myself since January 2022
and this is done by a colleague, I'm (actually) only the one who
monitors the abuse@, peering@ and usenet@ mailboxes. After I had to
fight my way through more than 12,000 abuse mails and had to get some
filters on the machine running again, the server will be taken offline
on June 31, 2022, despite a larger number of users, and the subdomain
will then be open for another 2-3 months news.nntp4.net redirected until
all users use the nntp4.net server.

I thank all peers for the cooperation with news.freedyn.de.
However, I will now administrate all systems myself again,
and save some machines because I don't have the time to manage all the
systems myself.

I've created a timeline table and somehow got lost in the line.

The correct date is June 30, 2022.

The 31st is from another date on the timeline related to the maintenance
of nntp4.net.

Just to let you know that I have removed news.freedyn.de from the
configuration at news.bbs.nz

I have also added news.nntp4.net to the configuration of news.bbs.nz and
would be happy to peer with your other server.

Can you please set up news.bbs.nz on your other server?
