I received this LWN article link from a colleague on LinkedIn who knew about my interest in Itanium, and I thought it'd be appropriate to reshare here (the LWN FAQ says it's okay to repost subscriber links).

Linux removed ia64 support during the 6.7 merge window, which made a very small group of dedicated users unhappy. It's probably for the best.
