I used to have this turned off and changed it to on. Now I can't find
the option. How do I just open an email message with a double click on
the message subject instead of launching an attachment if any? Not
knowing if there's an attachment, I often double click on an email
thinking I'm opening the message to read it but something launches
instead... which is bothersome. I'd rather open it to read and launch if
I decide to.

Otherwise I have to click on the Message button, but I'd rather just be
able to double click on the message subject itself to open it to read.
