You can bullshit everyone else nospam all you want but I happen to own
adult cognitive skills that you never seem to be able to step up to.

The main point is that you're a sadistic worthless piece of shit who never
has any intent on helping anyone, much like _all_ the iKooks are, nospam.

Exactly like Alan Baker & Snit, all you want to do is be _unhelpful_ to s|b
who happens to have a problem he's trying to solve, where Andy Burns and I
(and even Steve) are acting like adults trying to help him solve the issue.

You, as always, are acting like a kindergarten child.
*You are not helpful*

Worse, you have no intention whatsoever of being helpful.
*It's beyond your capabilities to be helpful*

That fact alone is how I know you're a worthless piece of shit, nospam.
These guys (Andy & s|b) need someone to help them - not waste their time.
--
The fact your IQ is in the toilet is shown by the fact you have no clue
whatsoever that fraud _requires_ every tenet to exist, and yet you have,
for years, been completely unable to grasp a concept as simple as that.

I like easy. :-) But it doesn't seem to work.

I just spoke to someone from the helpdesk and he told me they haven't
succeeded in activating even one phone that isn't supported. But at
least they tried...

It is not that simple. It is a service on the network that is accessed
by software on the phone, and if it is going to work depends on these
two being compatible.

I can confirm that the offered options w.r.t WiFi calling (and also the
related VoLTE calling) depend on the combination of provider and model
of phone. How this exactly is achieved, I do not know. But even with
supported phone models, functionality can vary. And it is not like a
newer phone always supports more than older models.

For example, here in the Netherlands with T-Mobile as a provider and
Samsung as phone manufacturer, on S-series models you have fully
transparent swichover between VoLTE and VoWIFI and you can configure
which of the two has priority. On A-series models (even the newest)
you don't have that. There is a VoWIFI setting but no priority setting,
and the WiFi is only used when there is no LTE coverage. When you
start a call on VoLTE and then "roam" into WiFi coverage (and lose LTE)
you will lose the call. I never got clear (from either T-Mobile or
Samsung) why that is and who/what determines that behavior.

On the A21s I have here (VoWiFi not yet enababled by asda/voda) there is a WiFi

So more and more likely it is partly determined by the mobile operator...
I have checked on A6, A40, A41 and A52 and neither of them have that.

For some models it even looks like when they initally did not support
VoWIFI or it was buggy, they were placed on a "blacklist" by the
operator and when that later was added or fixed, this was never updated.

The worst of all is that you cannot get replies to questions about such
complex issues from the first line helpdesk or webcare personnel, and
when I insist on getting an answer they escalate it to 2nd or 3rd
line and I never get any reply anymore. It seems noone knows how
it really works, all the technical operations have been outsourced
to Huawei and of course as a customer you cannot get in contact with
them.

I have taken a new A52s from the stock, it has May 1st Android 12 and now
it indeed has a priority selection, but it is not as clearly visible as
with the S9. Under the item in the settings to enable VoWIFI there now
is a small green text with "Preference WiFi", When you tap that it shows
a new screen where again it prominently shows the VoWIFI enable/disable
slider, but below that there is a "Preference" area and when you tap
that you can select between WiFi, Mobile Network and VoIP. Default is
VoIP.

A bit strange, as both VoWIFI and VoLTE are variants of VoIP so it is
unclear what the latter means. I have changed it to WiFi and indeed now
it keeps a WiFi connection for calling. Sounds promising...

Interesting... on a Samsung A52s this number does absolutely nothing
when entered. When "dial" is tapped (do you need to do that?) the provider
issues a "number not in use" message.

On phones where it works, you don't need to press dial, it takes effct as soon
as you enter the final *

Turns out I'm "spoiled" because the only Android phones I've owned have all been
Nexus/Pixel devices that do support the INFO shortcut, but it does seem that
many Samsungs don't. There are other ways to get to that screen though.

There are several other dialler short cuts such as *#06# to display your
IMEI(s), that does work on a Samsung

Yes but I was interested in that status overview of the mobile connection...
The IMEI I of course already know.

You can install once of the Activity Launcher apps as another way of getting
into the "RadioInfo" screen, mentioned in this thread once or twice ...

As Andy Burns already stated, if you know the unique name of the Activity,
you can always launch it (where we covered how to launch it in detail).

The options for launching any public Activity, that I know of are:
a. Launch the Activity using an app designed to launch that Activity.
b. Launch the Activity using adb (inside of Termux on the phone).
c. Launch the Activity using a Termux/adb widget on your homescreen.
d. Launch the Activity using adb (on Windows over Wi-Fi or USB).
e. Launch the Activity using any number of Activity search apps.
f. Launch the Activity using a homescreen shortcut created by those apps.
etc.

All of which are described in detail in the permanent Usenet archives
(which is why we described them here in detail in the first place).

I do not have much low-level technical knowledge of Android, I am mainly
trying to fix the call interruptions that users experience when moving
around in our (metal clad) building while making calls.

But I will try to research the given info. Will be next week as we
now have a long weekend coming up.

Neither do I and neither do almost everyone (if not everyone) on this

I don't know how to solve that but I do know that depending on _my_
settings, I can lose a call the minute I drive down my driveway and exit
the range of my home Wi-Fi if I'm already on a Wi-Fi call.

There are options that can prevent that from happening though, where I
think these options have been getting better over time in my experience.

There's no need to research how to call Android Activities for most people.

If you _need_ a hidden Activity, then there "often" is an app that does it
for you, particularly an app with ads as it's an easy app for them to
write.

I think you later said you found the activity already so that point is moot
for now (unless you need to call a different Activity in the future that
is).

An example where calling hidden Activities is useful is band selection:

But I am told that calls can seamlessly transfer between VoWIFI and VoLTE.
And indeed, on the S9 that is really happening. So when coming into
the building when making a call, the phone connects to the WiFi as soon
as it sees it, makes the VoWIFI connection (IPsec tunnel), and as soon
as the VoLTE coverage gets worse because of the patchy coverage it
will transfer the call to VoWIFI.

But on other models (A series) with default settings it will NOT make
the VoWIFI connection until it really loses the VoLTE connection and
apparently it is too late by then to transfer the call.

Today I saw that on the Samsung A52s with Android 12 there is a setting
to prefer VoWIFI over VoLTE and I am trying to find if that results
in a working situation (by changing the setup on some phones of people
that frequently lose calls).

But at the same time I would like to see what parameters the mobile
provider sets on the phones and how that may affect things.

Yes. But. In my experience, it went from worse to better, but I haven't
tested it in a while so I would love to find out how "seamless" the xfer is
between calls over Wi-Fi to calls over cellular.

Interestingly, the switch in the other direction seems to be less of a
problem but I have multiple cell towers in my home, so maybe that's why.
a. I have a repeater (which is only cellular)
b. And I have a femtocell (which is Wi-Fi)

Oooooh. That's nice. Very nice. I love it. Thanks for that added detail.
I love when there are people on this newsgroup who test things out for us.

Ah. Yes. That's been "mostly" my experience. I'm currently on an A32-5G.

On my Android 12 Samsung Galaxy A32-5G which T-Mobile gave me for free
"Android12:Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling" has these options:
Calling Preferences = {Cellular preferred, Wi-Fi preferred}

The Activity page above has a link to my cellular provider of:
<https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1680>
Which translates to:
<https://www.t-mobile.com/support/coverage/wi-fi-calling-from-t-mobile>
