Turned on my Samsung TAB 8 this am and got a popup about security
update. Killed it and went into settings to check and there was no
update.
First time this happened since I have been using Android.
Is this some malware in the wild ?

All my security updates seem to be made on the first of the month.
But I don't know if that's the way they all work (do they?).

He gave plenty of information... He got a popup about a security update
that it seems did not come from Android or Samsung. The Android version
and his update behaviour in the past does not matter, because he's
interested in whether anyone with ANY android version and ANY prior
behaviour ever got a phone security update popup.

He even said he had a Samsung TAB 8, but I guarantee you, he would be
very happy to know if this had happened to someone with any phone.

No, I've never expected anyone on Usenet to do any research and I'm
always surprised when they do for me and for others.

I expect them to answer off the top of their heads. Or if they choose,
not answer at all.

Because some go to the trouble to google or whatever to find more than
they know off the bat, I've done the same thing for people here many
many times. But I still don't think it's required in the slightest.
