Upgrade Agent 7 to 8. All seemed to work well, not so. Data is saved
to the program directory.."H:\Program Files (x86)\Agent\agent.exe".
Attempts to redirect to the "AgentData" directory fail. Copied all
Data to the correct \AgentData directory...no joy.

Target folder>>>"H:\Program Files (x86)\Agent\agent.exe"
"H:\Agent\AgentData" this also fails......Target Folder>>>"H:\Program
Files (x86)\Agent\agent.exe" "\Agent\AgentData"

ERROR:...unable to open INI File H:\agent\AgentData...

Not sure if I want to chase this rabbit, it's working fine.

my settings (translated to your settings) are

"H:\Program Files (x86)\Agent\agent.exe" H:\Agent\
Agentdata\

I only use H:\Agent\ as redirection location because it only has the
Agentdata.

Windows 10.....I've tried several combinations of that "Target" entry.
All fail...."unable to open INI File H:\agent\AgentData"... Yep, if
it ain't broke don't fix it.

One very important find, Agent8 is not displaying this post/thread on
my Win11 Machine....it is not there. Not the first problem I've had
with Agent8 and Windows 11.

How exactly did you upgrade Agent 8.0? Did you use the appropriate

You can tell Agent where to look for AGENT.INI and to store data files
by updating the Agent shortcut.

To specify a new location for the Data directory:

Locate the Agent shortcut icon.

Right click the icon and select "Properties".

Click the Shortcut tab and, in the "Start in:" field, specify the
location of AGENT.INI and the Data directory.

Press OK.

Never did that; only use the target folder for the redirection to
another drive.
Maybe it's this simple? (RTFM)

Have a copy of Agent.ini in both directories..H:\Program Files
(x86)\Agent\AgentData and H:\Program Files (x86)\Agent.

you have a problem that shouldn't be possible.
Could it have something to do with your upgrade from v7 to v8?
The error doesn't say it couldn't find the INI file, it is unable to
open it.

9 years ago Ralph gave this possible solution to someone upgrading to
v7.

1. This can be caused by AGENT.INI being set to read-only.
Check that AGENT.INI is not read-only.

5. Check the owner of the AGENT.INI file.
right-click >> Properties >> "Security" tab >> "Advanced" button
If the owner is someone else (not the same Windows user account that
you are running Agent from) then it may cause this problem.

Also check the owner of the data folder itself.

I can only say it's a fascinating problem.
For this moment I'm out of options.
