Hi,

"Samsung Notes", a simple notepad type app that came with this phone
worked just fine shortly after I bought the phone in Sept, 2021. I made some
notes using this app.

I recently wanted to "add" (+) a note, but when I clicked on "+" after I
opened the app, it closed up !!! I was back to the previous screen before
I opened the app.

The same thing happened on my Wife's Samsung phone (same model).

I do NOT have this issue with "Samsung Notes" on my Samsung tablet.

Does anyone know what caused this problem?

Thank You in advance, John

Since Android does not unload processes when you exit their windows
(they remain running in the background until their memory is needed by a
new process unless they're sticky which means they don't unload),
exiting the note app and reloading it never did reload it, but just
opened a window to the same still running process. Users on Windows and
Linux expect a program to unload when they exit it. Not on Android.

Unless you use a process killer app to actually kill off apps whose
windows have closed (but the processes are backgrounded), you can reboot
the phone to retest a fresh instance of the Notes app. Remember the
age-old Windows mantra: to fix a problem, reboot. Sometimes works on
Android, too.

Another troubleshooting step is to go into the Android settings for
Apps, find the Notes app, force stop the app, clear the cache (but keep
its storage data), and then load a new instance of the Notes app.

Hi Vanguard,

UPDATE:

Recently, I had an update on my phone. I don't know if this
caused the problem with "Samsung Notes" since I have not
used it for some time.

Instead of putzing around with "Samsung Notes", I un-installed it.
I downloaded from Google Play, "Notepad" (free) with a 4.6 star
rating.

I am VERY PLEASED with this ap.

John
