Running Mint 20.3 and I've got 107, 105 and an old #74 kernel.
Do I need 74? Why won't it autoremove like others?

Al

You have a funny way of naming kernel releases; most people say things like:
5.17.2 or 5.16.19

> Do I need 74?   Why won't it autoremove like others?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RemoveOldKernels

It even has a par for 'Oops; removed all kernels :-)'

5.4.0-107 and 5.4.0-105 and 5.4.0-74 it's the 74 I question.

I get it that #74 was the original one install and as your article states it will not be 'autoremove'd

It's only one kernel. I'll leave it I guess.

The kernel numbering scheme:

w.xx.y-zzz

w=kernel = 5
xx=major revision = 4
y=minor revision = 0
zzz=patch number = 74, 105, 107

Your update manager Edit menu/ Preferences/ Automation section/
Automatic maintenance/ default is OFF for Remove obsolete kernels and
dependencies; it also says 'Leaves at least one older kernel installed -
and manually installeds' if the switch is turned ON.

Also, your update manager can show you a LOT of kernel revisions and
patches in View menu/ Linux kernels.

I saw all the kernels in that list, and I read the article earlier posted about those that were and were not installed
manually.
It's just the question about getting rid of 5.4.0-74. I know it's old and obsolete. Thanks.

In "Update Manager" you can go to "View" -> "Linux Kernels" then click
on the kernel you want to remove and click "Remove". This operation is
'always' safe.

I've installed maybe 10 or more between 74 and 105.
In reading, it seems to have something to do with manually installing the kernels or not.
74 was done at install. It will not drop. I found a command line to switch it so the next time I ask for autoremove
it will go.
Of course I can do it off the GUI too. I turned on the feature in the GUI update manager to start doing purges keeping 2.

That'd do it too. I rarely jump kernel versions; so jumping 74-105 isn't
exactly "unheard of" for my systems (and didn't wanna get into about
10,000 "well maybe" scenarios that didn't matter to your setup).

That'll work (or using the "Kernels" thing in mintupdate to forcibly
delete it right now).
