You can't blame the iKooks like nospam because they all have a low IQ and
are completely ignorant that FM radio is in _most_ Android phones.

It's only most iPhones that Apple removed this basic functionality from.

You can't blame the iKooks like nospam because they all have a low IQ and
are completely ignorant that FM radio is useful in emergencies, where the
fidelity isn't what the user cares about when there's no Internet around.

Posted out of the goodness of my heart to disseminate useful information,
where it's no longer shocking how _ignorant_ the iKooks are when defending
Apple's inexorable removal of basic hardware & software functionality.

Nope. Not by any definition of "most" that's rational.

Nope. No iPhone ever had an FM radio functionality.

'fm radio functionality' is available via a wide variety apps, which
are able to stream fm stations from anywhere in the world rather than
being limited to within 20-30 miles and without being forced to use
headphones. it's also not limited to only fm, but includes a wide
variety of sources. it's called progress.

Great.

An iPod Nano is not an iPhone.

Since you're a low-IQ iKook nospam, it's _expected_ you'll be completely
ignorant that FM radio is completely _different_ from Internet radio.

That you can't possibly fathom even basic concepts typical for you iKooks.

You're _desperate_ to excuse the inordinately basic iPhone hardware faults.

It's not surprising that most people on this Apple newsgroup are ignorant
of what Apple does (they only know what Apple "says" it does).

It's no longer shocking how ignorant iKooks are, in that the classic
iPhones till iPhone 6/6s did have a built-in FM radio chip.

Apple just didn't enable that basic hardware feature they all had.

Worse, Apple sadistically completely removed the chip from its newest
iPhones (starting from iPhone 7 because Apple was desperate to pave the way
to remove the industry standard headphone jack (whose spiteful removal
Apple termed as "courageous" on their part - because they weren't actually
sure they could shove a fist that large up their (admittedly loyal)
customers' asses.

And yet, Apple got away with removing the most basic functionality.
So that customers would be forced to buy it back.

Classic Apple strategy.
Worse, the customers _loved_ having that fist shoved up their asses.

It's "courageous".

Since you're a low-IQ fanatic, it's _expected_ that you'll never

relatively few phones have a terrestrial fm radio, and of those that
do, very few people actually use that feature due to its numerous
limitations.

instead, they use what you call web-radio, which is more than just
radio. it also includes music streaming, podcasts, video and much more,
with a much wider range of choices, often without any ads.

> Huh? Headphones are no more needed for radio than for web-radio.

they are for a phone, which uses wired headphones as an antenna.

without headphones, there is no fm antenna, therefore, no stations can
be received.

thus the radio won't work while using bluetooth headphones, the
speakers in the phone itself or external speakers, making an fm radio
feature not particularly useful in the vast majority of use cases.

progress is when something new and more capable replaces something
older and less capable. there is no need to keep both, since the former
can do everything the latter can do, plus a lot more.

It's has ceased to be shocking the iKooks have no concept of nuance in
detail, where most people don't call 911 every day either - but when you
_need_ an emergency feature of a phone, it should be there waiting for you.

The iKooks are of so low an IQ they can't conceive of that simple concept.
a. When you _need_ an FM radio, it's not there on the iPhone
b. When you _need_ a headphone jack, it's no longer there on an iPhone
c. When you _need_ portable storage, it was never there on an iPhone
etc.

Apple has literally crippled the hardware functionality of the iPhone.

It isn't shocking anymore how fantastically ignorant these iKooks are in
that they can't fathom that FM radio is _different_ from Internet radio.

Remember the Apple iPhones up until the iPhone 6/6s had the FM radio inside
the phone but Apple had planned for _years_ to remove the headphone jack in
a "courageous" move to force its customers to buy the functionality back.

Apple had to _remove_ the FM radio in the iPhone 7 onward because the FCC
was clamoring for Apple to enable it but giving the customer free hardware
functionality isn't in Apple's (admittedly brilliant) business plan.

> thus the radio won't work while using bluetooth headphones, the

Why is it no longer shocking how fantastically _ignorant_ iKooks are?
They can't comprehend that wired headphones are _different_ from bluetooth
headphones, and, in fact, they only _add_ to the functionality of a phone.

Apple's (rather brilliant) strategy is to inexorably _remove_ basic
hardware functionality so Apple customers are forced to buy it back.

How soon will it be when Apple has removed _all_ the industry standard
basic hardware functionality of the iPhone such that it's only a sealed
almost useless brick unless you pay subscriptions for _everything_ that
Android users currently attain for free, e.g.,
a. FM radios (which only _add_ to the functionality of Internet radio)
b. Wired headphones (which only _add_ to the functionality of bluetooth)
c. Portable storage (which only _add_ to the functionality of cloud storage)
d. USB-C chargers in the box (which only _add_ to the functionality of wireless charging)
etc.

Only the iKooks are oblivious Apple's strategy is to inexorably delete
basic standard hardware functionality so that you have to buy it back.

Apple has offered a product with a certain set of capabilities and features.

A DVD player would "only _add_ to the functionality of a phone.", too,
right?

But making a phone with FM radio is about more than having a chip that
might support it.

How is it "sadistic" to remove something that most people don't even
know exists?

How did removing that FM-enabled radio chip help that?

I'm sorry but that's just a lie.

In the last three years of phones, GSM Arena lists 1906 phones as
available or coming soon.

Of those, 1039 have FM radios.

How is 54% ever "most"?

The least expensive iPhone is about $550USD

When we limit the search to similarly priced phones, the numbers are 325
and...

....63.

That is less than 20% of phones in the same price class as iPhones
having FM radios.

one of the resident trolls has stated that a dvd player can be

apparently android users carry dvd players everywhere they go. who knew?

actually, it's $399, absent sales, promos, etc.

that particular model has been available for as little as free (with

The fact remains Apple has inexorably crippled the hardware functionality
of the iPhone, which is one reason for Apple's ungodly profit margins.

FACTS:
a. Apple removed the internal FM radio after the iPhone 6
b. Which paved the way for Apple to remove the standard headphone jack
c. Worse, no Apple mobile device contains any internal portable storage
d. Keeping on the trend, lately Apple removed the USB-C chargers in the box
e. Even the USB-C cables Apple ships are not the standard USB cable
f. And, rumor has it the iPhone 14 has laughably puny el cheapo batteries
iPhone 14 - 3279 mAh (iPhone 13 - 3,227 mAh)
iPhone 14 Max - 4325 mAh (N/A)
iPhone 14 Pro - 3200 mAh (iPhone 13 Pro - 3,095 mAh)
iPhone 14 Pro Max - 4323 mAh (iPhone 3 Pro Max - 4,352 mAh)

This el-cheapo stone-age battery technology was also in the iPhone 13
(iPhone 13 - 3,227 mAh)
(iPhone 13 Pro - 3,095 mAh)
(iPhone 3 Pro Max - 4,352 mAh)

Apple's strategy is to inexorably _remove_ hardware functionality so that
the (admittedly loyal) consumer has to figure out how to buy it back.

False. There has never been a USB-C charger in the box of any iPhone.

Those products that have shipped with USB-C chargers continue to do so.

No. They're the appropriate cables to connect the device.

Wired headphones are required to use the FM receiver in phones because
the headphone wire acts as the antenna. There's a workaround to this,
with antennas that plug into the headphone jack but you still need the
headphone jack.

The FM radio is a nice feature to have on some occasions. If you're on a
plan with not a lot of data per month, where you don't want to be
streaming content, it's convenient. It's also useful in areas with no
cellular coverage that do have FM reception, but I suspect that few
phone users have ever bothered with the FM receiver, especially since so
few people listen to music on the radio anymore.

The hardware was there, up until the 6s, but it was never used. See
<https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/28/16379316/fcc-iphone-fm-radio-activation-request-ajit-pai>.

It would not have made sense for Apple to activate the FM radio given
that they wanted to sell content via iTunes.

For Android, you can plug an external RTL-SDR tuner into the USB-C port
using OTG and listen to FM. You can also plug in a TV tuner.

Which is just as irrelevant.

And if someone want to make such a device for the Lightning port, they
could.

Not just music. There are 2 FM news stations in my area. I listen to them
often. Always online of course...
