I listen to the FM radio in my Android phone, 24x7, just to spite
everyone else here!

And while I'm doing that, I'm constantly swapping MicroSD cards
between my phone and laptop, so *there* you go!

And I use the GPS in my Wi-Fi-only tablet!

And ... ad infinitum.

No FM radio on my phone so I'm SOL. Though I doubt I'd use it if I had
it. Much easier to read the news when out (and waiting for you know who)
than messing with the wired earphones. YMMV.

I haven't used a card with my phone since the beginning (2+ years). I
hardly use even half of the 128G storage.

> And I use the GPS in my Wi-Fi-only tablet!

No GPS in my tablets. They stay at home so always know where they are... ;)

> And ... ad infinitum.

If you're by chance trying to make the iFolks envious of your phone's
capabilities I should tell you that I made my last post on a Chromebook
using the PhoNews newsreader. Apparently it has a bug that
stripped all but the Android newsgroup off. I didn't know it did that
til just now. So the iFolks likely missed your post. And I am still
looking for a good Android newsreader...

as usual, you are incorrect.

not only did the 5th, 6th and 7th gen ipod nano include an fm tuner,
but songs could be tagged to be later purchased via itunes. it actually
*helped* sell more itunes music.

apple also has licensed numerous third party fm and tv receivers for
ios devices.

No, it's not possible. You need to understand the functionality of the
30 pin connector. Very different than Lightning.

Really?

And what makes it impossible with a Lightning connector?

Can that Lightning connector not receive data? No, it CAN receive
incoming data.

wrong. not only is it possible, but it's been done.

if anyone needs to understand that, it would be you.

you mentioned modern android phones that have usb-c, thus the proper
comparison would be with a modern iphone that has lightning, *not*
iphones from more than 10 years ago that have the long obsolete dock
connector.

however, that doesn't actually matter, since there were fm and tv
tuners that used the dock connector, what you incorrectly claim is
impossible.

here's one:

if only you knew what the differences actually are.

Do be fair, he only claims it's impossible for the Lightning connector...

....which seems odd anyway, because the Lightning connector can clearly
be used to send data into the iPhone.

it's not clear what he claims, because his stories keep changing.

nearly everything he claims is impossible is very possible, often with
little to no effort. the more amusing ones are when it's been part of
ios for years.

as can the dock connector.

Wonder if this fact will be mentioned in his little "here's how Apple
sucks" document. ; )

Of course I was only kidding. I've used the built-in FM radio
occasionally, but that was mainly on a 'dumb'/'feature' phone. Might
have used one in one of my earlier Android phones, but only a few times,
if that.

Like you, I mainly read, not listen (or watch TV on a real TV).

My earlier phones had only '4'GB (effectively ~1GB) and 8GB
(effectively 4-5GB) Internal Storage, so a MicroSD card was a must.

Like yours, my current phone has 128GB of which 51GB is used (by all
the bloody maps of US states! :-)).

Anyway, I've hardly ever *swapped* MicroSD cards between phone and
something else. They were in the phone and stayed there.

When we traveled with our 4WD camper (small mobile home) in the 'bush'
in Australia, the tablet was used by my navigator for wide-range
navigation, while I was using the phone for close-range navigation/
driving. (For some stange reason, Google Maps has no alerts for
kangaroos on the road!)

Bummer! Oh well, the main 'targets' also read this group, so no harm
done. The primary 'target' *does* have a sense of humour, so it'll be
allright.
