Hi everyone,

My latest exciting technological breakthrough is: An alternative to collaborative filtering, which is a user-count-independent content selection algorithm that processes real-time media-consumption reactions from users to produce highly excellent media item recommendations for users.

The idea is, users would mouseover certain distinct regions of the webpage, to rate content while it is being consumed, whether that's textual or audio/video content. The algorithm would process those results and help the web service identify subsequent media items that the user would likely have good reactions to.

I don't anticipate patenting or revealing this idea, but I'm likely to use it in a news startup or other web startup that I hope to build in the near future.

I hope it is really over in September as some have indicated! Upon reflection, it looks increasingly likely that it is, but I won't count it--my experience has been full of shocking surprises recently, so I won't rule out any wild possibility related to the end date completely just yet.
