I've just gone through about a month-long spam attack on my Comcast
email address. It ramped up from maybe 3-4 per day to 20-30. They were
mostly similar, claiming I had won gift cards or other prizes from
places like Lowes, Costco, CVS, etc. They all had a similar look about
them, like they were crafted from the same template. They had some
common elements in their headers, which after some struggle, allowed me
to filter them out.

The funny thing is, a couple days ago they suddenly stopped! I usually
find this kind of thing fades away gradually after some time. I suppose
it's the spammers moving on to a new campaign. But this time it cut of
abruptly - the last one I received was June 16. Which makes me wonder
if Comcast themselves managed to block these spams and if other people
were also targets and saw them stop like that.

I have two hotmail accounts and one of them is constantly getting spam but maybe 2 every 3 weeks. My comcast I don't
use so I can't say, but I've never seen 20-30 level of spam.

I was wondering about Comcast specifically. I have other addresses that
have a much worse problem with it (I have an old AOL address that
consistently gets 20-30 spams per day, even though it's been many years
since anything was sent from it.) I've had very few problems with spam
at the Comcast address. This is the first severe attack I can remember.
It's particularly curious that the spam was cut off so abruptly. And I
was wondering if the attack was on me specifically or if I was part of
a blanket attack on a range of Comcast addresses.

Comcast seems to be normal for me, the typical few that come through are not worth my time to widdle away.

I am seeing the same thing. Bulk come from gmail addresses and while
the addresses will vary themes make them appear to come from the same
spammer.

None of mine are "from" gmail addresses, though - they're all
different, many of them "from" international and edu addresses. Almost
all appear to have bodies that are one line of clickable text plus a
link to an image out on the Internet, and nothing more. The one common
thing that I was able to filter on has been the reply-to and message-
id, all of which have the same format: at 15 random alphanumeric
characters, dot, 1 numeral, dot, 3 letters, and 10 digits.

Since you're getting them, too, that implies to me that a bunch of
Comcast customers were getting hit, not just me. But its moot now (I
hope) - the stream of spams stopped suddenly three days ago and I
haven't seen one since. Are you still getting them?
