Does LM have a native format  to render pages. As an example: You see
this great web page and it is full of graphics...so you want to print
it. Microsoft offers .xps and there is Adobe which renders as .pdf. Is
there some other format besides those two .pdf-.xps?

Wouldn't this be more a function of the web browser than the OS? On LM
Print to File generally produces a PDF.

Not really. Microsoft invented .xps hoping it could compete with .pdf,
but unfortunately for them it couldn't and .pdf is still the standard.
I expect .xps to slowly disappear in the near future, just like their
..chm format.

Apart from that, rendering pages has little to do with the functions of
an operating system, it's up to the programmers of browsers/programs to
decide which formats they want to support.

I was just hoping that the Linux community had come up with an
alternative to pdf that I was not aware of.

What's wrong with PDF then? It's portable to all OS's. It prints when you want to.

Nothing wrong with pdf. I asked because I thought that Linux may had some
alternative method that was unique to Linux, it seemed logical since I see
so many other attempts at providing gnome versions of other products. If I
speculate and ask what will computers be like in 100 years? Will Linux
evolve into the latest technology? Will a totally new os be written?
