Hi everyone,

I decided to publish this now, I changed my mind:

Here is how to invert the MixColumns step, from my notes:

- The matrix is a system of linear equations.
- Multiplication by the vector is simply modifying each variable in each equation by multiplying it by a coefficient.
- Actually, there's one more step: The output vector is produced by adding the terms of each resulting equation.
- Ultimately, what we've done is: We've added the partial derivatives of a linear equation to the distance from origin.
- That is, the "distance from origin" is the magnitude of the smallest vector from the origin to the algebraic variety.
- Thus, we've got a different system of linear equations: the unknowns sum to the final value.
- To solve this, we can just use Gaussian elimination to find (and then try) all possible solutions.
- That is, breaking AES should be easy.

I had written that on November 1, 2021.
