In RISC OS Configuration => Network => Internet => Interfaces =>
Configure do you use an IP address, a hostname or DHCP?

If not DHCP, can you try that?

I've since found out that it fails as described above when the network
is configured to get its IP address from the hostname, but it works when
set to DHCP.

So how is yours configured?

I've updated the ticket accordingly.

Hi Martin (and David),

Interesting! I did have a fixed IP address before but now I've changed
to DHCP and then re-installed the new TCI/IP stack the error message has
gone away and everything seems to be working OK. Thanks for the
suggestion.

Hi David,

Mine was configured with a Manual IP address - with the fixed address
supplied by me. Now I've switched to DHCP it seems to work fine.

See what happens if you take LanMan98 v2.08 out of your startup, then
reboot. Remember LanMan98 is a network application.

Thanks for the thought but now I've switched to DHCP I no longer see the

Dave, no-one is forcing you to use the new stack, or DHCP.
As Andrew said, it is still a work-in-progress.

I am sure this minor problem will be fixed, now it has been reported
back to ROD..... I assume you did report it?

My Pi4 has 4GB RAM, the official Raspberry Pi 4 case, the official
Raspberry Pi fan and the CJE Micros Raspberry Pi 4 Real Time Clock Module
which also controls the fan.

On the Install I eventually clicked SAVE followed by 'Reset now'. I saw
no other messages. On rebooting it displayed the Network configuration
window again. I then clicked 'Reset later' to get to the desktop.

Before !Install was run, the old Internet and networking was working
fine.

Whoops! Someone didn't notice the " ;-) <<<<<"

It was a humorous aside... Nothing more... :-)

Why would I report it... Nothing to report. ;-)

The RISC OS I use is mostly is 6.20 and if I've been following this thread
correctly, it will only work on the other side.

When it's fixed I'll try it on my RPCEmu 5.28 :-)

John Ballance has posted the following "Get of Trouble" instructions on
the ROOL forums:

GET OUT OF TROUBLE
In the unlikely event that install fails, and you cannot revert using the
uninstall feature then this is what you'll need to do.
1: delete !!ip6.net
2: delete !Boot.Choices.Internet.Startup
3: In !Boot.Utils you should see oldBootRun. IF you do, then delete the
BootRun file and rename oldBootRun to BootRun
4: likewise, in !Boot.Resources.Configure you should see old!InetSetup. IF
you do, then delete !InetSetup and rename old!InetSetup?!InetSetup.

5: Reboot the machine. You'll have no internet, so several complaints
through startup.

6: type *unplug, and then do rmreinit for each of the network modules
shown as unplugged. As a minimum, MBufManager, Internet, DHCP, and
Resolver.

7: reboot the machine again

8: double click !Boot and run the Network configuration tool. Configure as
you want and let the machine reboot when it asks.

9: All should now be OK. If not, did you rmreinit the correct Ether driver
(e.g. EtherTH if iMx)?

If this still fails then please resort to the ticket system to report the
issue and seek help.

That is the cause of the Unknown SWI - it is in the Internet module.

If using *RMReInit Internet does not bring the 5.65 module back to
life, I suggest you follow some 'Get out of Trouble' instructions that
John Ballance has now posted - see
https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/8/topics/17135?page=4#posts-132446

It would also be good to report on the ROD bugs list your original
problem - of opening the network config when installing the new stack,
as I don't think anyone has reported that yet.

Delighted to say that with help from Martin I have DHCP up and running and

That is my understanding too, as VRPC just passes Internet stuff over to
the Windows Networking.

It is the case with VRPC variants, straight through to Windows.

However, in my post (You've quoted above) it is "RPCEmu" which is quite a
different beast, and with a completely different networking arrangement.
