When running my handbook consisting of 25 LaTeX (LyX) files, a large
number of included listings compiled my a Makefile of 500 lines I am
getting this error

! LaTeX hooks Error: Illegal mode change in hook 'para/end'.
(hooks) Hook code did not remain in horizontal mode.

I am unable to construct an MWE but have isolated this to the recent
update of the latex package (version 59440). When I

tlmgr restore latex 57354

the error goes away.

On my other Mac (both are Big Sur and I use Mac BasicTex 2021)

tlmgr restore latex 59424

did not solve the issue. So I scp'ed

/usr/local/texlive/2021basic/tlpkg/backups/latex.r57354.tar.lz4

over to the other box and could then

tlmgr restore latex 57354

which fixed it on that box as well.

Well it is an error related to the new para hooks. And it would be
very useful to have an complete example to debug it, even if it is
not minimal.

If possible export to latex and sent it to me personally.

I have found Frank Mittelbach's pull request
updated and integrated ltpara

Please, Ulrike, would be so kind as to tell me if this pull requests adds the new para hooks to the LaTeX that Ebehard Lisse has a problem with.
