I normally plug the phone into a USB socket
tap file transfer on
And the contents of the phone will show in Dolphin

But not any more Now I get

"The file or folder
udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb1/1-1
does not exist."

I believe that it used to work fine and maybe a recent update had
trashed it.

Fortunately it still works in Mageia 6. So not all is lost.

I gave up using cables for this operation a long time ago.
I use "WiFi FTP Server" on my Samsung phone and Filezilla on Mageia 8.
Also need "gmtp" and "mtpfs" on Mageia 8, both in the repositories.
I also installed "android-file-transfer" on Mageia 8.
Not sure if all 3 are needed but I installed them years ago and have
just followed on from this.

Phone and computer should be on the same network and files can be
transferred both to and from the computer with Filezilla.

I do what Leo does. For a while, I used Airplay, from the Google Store,
and there is at least one person still using it.

Some time ago, there was a basic change to the Android operating system
that made all the existing methods stop working. There is an Android
helper RPM in the Mageia repos, but using FTP, you don't need it.

I would challenge your claim a little, Doug!

My phone has been running Android 10 for most of the year and until the
recent Mageia update file transfers worked fine. I suspect a management
decision..

Lotto has just done the same thing.
Once you could open the "Congratulations" email and discover how much
you had won. Now, instead, there is a "Check your Ticket" button
Then enter your ticket number
All 24 digits - no chance of error there of course.

Management decision?

I discovered that flash memory can still be read when plugged into the
phone, but to connect the computer now requires FTP.
It is manufactured incompatibility

My phone uses Android 9, and until recently I didn't think it would work
with Mageia 8 Plasma, either. My much older Android tablet had no problems.

But maybe a month ago I stumbled onto what was needed, so now if I want
to access my phone with usb I use the following steps, in order:

1. Boot computer and phone without the cable connection.
2. Make sure the phone is unlocked.
3. Plug the usb cable into the computer and phone.
4. The device notifier will recognize the phone. Click on the "Open with
file manager" option.
5. The phone will ask to allow MTP communication, which I OK. In the
meantime, Dolphin has opened with an error that it can't access the phone.
6. Close Dolphin, then open it again. You should be able to access the
phone from the listing under "Devices."

If you click on that listing without closing Dolphin, you will get an
error message. Closing it and opening it again resets something so that
access works. At least, it does for me.

You're a genius TJ

I also added

turn left counterclockwise 13 times while stamping your left foot after
each complete turn. Because you never know :-)

thanks TJ I wont ask how you stumbled across that method.

My ten years old Android Samsung Note 4 always transported files fine to
and fro any of the Mageia versions on my pc, until about three years
ago. From then USB cable connections were refused.

As I didn't get any system software updates from Samsung since many
years, the problem must be located in the Linux/Mageia software updates.

My data are stored on an SD card in my phone.

I solved the connection problem in this way: I take out my SD card from
the phone and put it into a usb card reader that I connect to my pc,
then copy the files to my pc per Dolphin.

Recently I bought an Intel NUC pc and formatted its SSD hard disk for
Mageia 8. The NUC has an SD card reader. Plug the SD card in, and copy
files into the Linux system. It's fast, 700 photo files in a few minutes
are transported into Mageia.

Marc.

Correct! Taking out the SD card was an option
But taking the phone from wallet, remove SIM tray and SD card was a
bit of a pain

TJ's solution works fine

.. One day I will try Leo's FTP arrangement
