I'm one of those people that use Tor for anonymity reasons. The problem
is that you cannot register your accounts pretty much anywhere if you
don't provide your e-mail address.

Secmail.pro used to be great but it has been down for a while and all
the services (gmail, yahoo) require a phone number to register. Are
there any Tor-friendly e-mail providers that don't require a phone
number to register account with?

What about riseup.net? I haven't used them but they say they have
onion services. Oh, looks like it's invite only now due to abuse.

they do when they suspect some level of fraud.

for most people, its not required.

on the other hand, if someone is doing something suspicious, such
trying to create several accounts while connecting via a vpn, there's a
very good chance it will ask for additional verification.

many sites do something similar. some sites block vpns entirely.

Tutanota is another option similar to ProtonMail. Pretty sure no phone
number is required during registration.
