If you read (and post) using a newsreader/news feed combination rather
than a browser and Google Groups you can filter out the spam so you
don't see it. I use Eternal September for the feed but there are other
free NNTP feeds.

Of course, the group was arguably dead before the recent flood of spam
since it carried nothing by posts from cranks about junk theories, but
that did (for a while) have some amusement value.

In sci.physics.relativity it stopped on 02.10.2023, there was
some last spamming in 02.10.2023. Now I see that even some
deletion or expiry happened, the lastest spam seen is 28.09.2023.

That would not be a spam filter, the spammer must have simply quit
spamming. A spam filter must be individually set up in each persons news
reader.

Interesting observation on my side. Must be google groups specific
filtering, maybe it was classified as spam by google groups itself.
For example if I look for sci.physics.relativity over news.solani.org,

it still shows me some spam from 03.10.2023. But again no spam
from 04.10.2023 over news.solani.org in sci.physics.relativity. Maybe
spam rules take some time to ripple into the last corner of this globe,

and its only a matter of time sci.logic gets also rid of it. But if we
would know some way to accelerate this process, this would be cool!

I know there are some global spam prevention services, companies
and networks. Only I don't know their adresses and how to
make a filter proposal. Little busy with other stuff than spam.

spam, ham, eggs and toast.

These spam prevention algorithms also use machine learning.
If they were not in place, everything would be full of penis enlargement
advertising. Most likely the spammer, as in the present case, will

trigger some rule by its own suspicious behavour, only a matter of time.

Yes spam, and of course backed beans and marmelade.

news.solani.org is tidy now.
But Google Groups hasn't catched up yet!

Perhaps someone informed Thai police or Interpol.

From or subject matches regex ^.*[ฝากถอนขงแท้ปฐมพรชัยภูมิ].*$
(proppsed by Dairon Dijur) seems to work.

Usenet is often historically regularly pronounced dead.

Usenet is not dead, and I never said it was. Specific groups are
usually only considered to be alive by people who can't remember (or
didn't care) what they were like in their prime.

Spam filters that I set up in Thunderbird continue to block ALL of the
spam. I have to go to a different news host to see if the spam still
exists.

The current issue with spam is not really actual spam at all unless the
spammer is psychotic. It seems to be someone that intentionally wants to
destroy these news groups.
