The company will retire the IE 11 desktop app on June 15, 2022, on most
versions of Windows 10 (but not Windows 10 Long-Term Servicing Channel).

Microsoft Edge has a built-in Internet Explorer mode if you really need it.

Ah. That explains why CEdge is getting an IE mode...
So they have an excuse to leave all the IE components,
needed for everything from HTAs to Internet APIs, on
the system, while officially disowning IE.

Yes, I hadn't spotted the words "desktop app" the first time. As you
say, that means virtually all of IE will remain, you just won't be able
to call it up as a browser as such. (Which I think [a] hardly anyone
does these days [b] it's not unlikely that some enthusiast will make a
version to replace it.)

I use IE11 occasionally because I find it much easier to locate an older
bookmark,I find it hard to manage my bookmarks in FF, Unless their is an
easier way, Will IE still be available or will it just quit?

I hope there is a way to keep IE becuase it is the only browser that
will show my Foscam cameras now except for an android application.

I think I tried the Edge IE mode and it did not work with the cameras.

Technology is going backwards in time I swear !

Yes - my Foscam cameras could only be controlled with IE - but recently
I downloaded Foscam's VMS software which works with Windows 10 and that
seems to do everything that IE could do in managing the camera.

| It's an interesting issue. I expect the core of it will
stay. But I don't know what that will mean. Microsoft
have offered a web browser control as part of their API
for decades. Will that still be there? Probably. Because
a lot of programs have been written that use it. The WB
control is simply an IE browser window without the
"chrome" window frame, menu, etc.

Then there are HTAs, which are just webpages that open
in IE with no security, allowing for writing complex software
as a webpage using COM objects. The only restriction on
an HTA is that it must be run locally. So it's possible that
you can simply rename an HTML file to HTA in the
future to get it opened in IE. (Technically it opens in
mshta.exe, but there's not much else that's different.
The browser window is the IE browser window.)

But I don't know what Foscam is, so I don't know if
that helps you.

Thanks to both of you !

We will find out.

So, I wonder if simply changing permissions of all the IE files that I
can find to "read only" might keep it from being deleted by the
update ??

As for security, I don't personnaly care if a browser is secure or
not. It has caused me a lot of gried in the past for ALL browsers.

Now I must look up HTA !

It will open differently but still be mostly the same.
The big difference is that you can do things like embed
ActiveX controls and write script to access files...
no security restrictions.
