Would anyone know how I can get in touch with 4AM? I have a program that I'd like to send to him so he can crack it and make it available to everyone.

I have a disk, and the documentation, for a program called Tranquilty Base by Peachtree Software. Now before anyone thinks what I'm talking about is the Tranquilty Base by Bill Budge, it's not. It's the predecessor to Lunar Explorer by Electric Transit. The major difference between the two programs is that Tranquility Base does NOT have the Cargo Run game that Lunar Explorer has.

Also the documentation for Tranquility Base is a little over 30 pages where as the documnetation for Lunar Explorer is a little over 100 (at least the pdf is). So if someone can put me in touch with 4AM we could soon have this rare Apple II game available to everyone.

I think he's on the Apple II Infinitum Slack channel

Which is, by the way, where a lot of the Apple II traffic has disappeared to
from csa2 :-/

Hi,

I agree with both the fact and the assessment. The content here is:

- Replicated and therefore saved "forever"
- R/O accessible to everybody
- Easily searchable through Google "forever"

Nothing of the above is - at least to my knowledge - true for the Slack.
There are for sure discussions on Slack that - at least I think - wouldn't
fit here well, like "Look at that eBay listing!". But there are others
which badly lack the attributes I listed above - meaning that the info they
contain gets lost.

I'm surprised that a community that is so much about history and
preservation of digital assets doesn't care about the fact that its own
activity will later be considered history as well - which is not well
preserved.

This aspect extends to KansasFest. When searching for A2 topics on the net,
my hits include PDFs of former KansasFest sessions. I gave the other day my
first session :-)) But I wasn't even asked for a PDF of my slides. Yes,
there will (very likely) be a YouTube video - and in many aspects, the
video is preferable. But I still think, the PDFs should be preserved too.

Just my two cents,
Oliver

This is a good point. We should make a point of preserving anything that
comes up there that is worthwhile keeping.
The stream of activity on many channels (eg Total Replay) is mostly noise
when reviewed in retrospect and the important outcomes are captured
elsewhere. But other channels do have important content.

The GEnie and Delphi round tables used to have a monthly newsletter that
captured important bits.
Perhaps a monthly summary of important bits in Slack would be useful for
others to read. The dissemination of this would create wider distribution
and preservation.
The problem with creating this is the time it would take to produce. But
perhaps this is an idea that someone would like to take on?

The YouTube stream from the day of your presentation already exists. A
session specific edit will be published in the future.

The Kfest website does have the provision to capture artifices from
sessions. I encourage you to submit yours to the committee. I understand
that Chris Torrence deals with the website.

The administrators of the Apple II Infinitum Slack channel have the ability
to download a complete backup copy of all messages, users, and files.

They have in the past provided a backup copy to all users of the channel. I
have a copy of the backup which they provided a few months ago.

Agreed. While there are many messages on the Apple II Infinitum Slack
channel that are of no consequence, there are enough technical messages
there that ought to be preserved.

Frankly, there are enough technical messages that ought to be available to
all, right now, on the Internet, just like Usenet is available to all.

Hi,

I have done so today. My point was/is that this should be the default. But
e.g. from 2021 there's about nothing as far as I see.

Anyhow, I brought the topic up today on the Kfest Discord and got positive
feedback from the committee. We'll what the future brings...

Regards,
Oliver

To try to bubble the good stuff to the top there is a new channel on the II
Infinitum slack space called #best-of-ii-infinitum

The intention is to capture messages that the A2 community should be aware
of from any channel.

Those who are time poor may appreciate less to consume. Those who aren’t
regular visitors may use this as a way of catching up.

Andrew
