When I start Gvim the window is too big and in the wrong place.
Yet when I change the settings it doesn't take.

Can you tell me what _vimrc settings in what file sets a typical window of
an 80 character wide window of about 60 characters tall?

I'm using all the defaults with that one change I'm trying to make.

Hasn't *everybody* killfiled "Good Guy" by now?

The randomly chosen signature file that would have appeared here is more than 4
lines long. As such, it violates one or more Usenet RFCs. In order to remain
in compliance with said RFCs, the actual sig can be found at the following URL:

You mention vim and Gvim, so it's not quite sure which one your query
is about.

Anyway, I just use vim in a 'Command Prompt' window and set the size
(and position) of *that* window with the Properties -> Layout settings.

in either $HOME\_vimrc (which effect vim and gvim) or $HOME\_gvimrc
(which will effect only gvim and NOT vim) -
set columns=80
