printing works fine with Artix & Devuan
so hardware/wifi seem to be OK

not in Suse TW or Leap, seems to be a
problem with printer 'not finishing' (?)

As sooon as I click Yast to do a Test
print that's the exact moment the error
file fills up. The reason I tried Yast
is that I have NEVER seen IT fail to
print a test page.

even on a minimal slackware-15.0 freshie
all I had to do was:

hp-setup 192.168.0.143

to start printing

...just like the usb wifi, it worked just fine
before some 'up'-grade.

That is what the system thinks your printer is. Is it really?

hp-setup is available on openSUSE as well.

However, notice that the M252 is not listed at openprinting.org

I followed through with Carlo's suggestion of
the hp-setup as the alternate method. Lo and
behold it produced a perfect printer test page
and a new additional printer entry observable
in Yast. Alas the system still would not print
because the old printer entry was default. So
I deleted all printer entries on all 4 Suse
systems and recreated new ones with Yast. Problem
gone, can someone tell me if had anything to do
with systemd, which happens to be one of the
more obvious differences between my Suse systems
and all the others?
