… not date related this time (or at least I don’t think it is)…

Every time I boot TOPS-10 (7.04, KS10, simh) I get stopcode NTMNEC. The job running is NML and the user PC is 511522. This is a debug stopcode so the system keeps going. I've seen it happen at other times too, but it seems to reliably happen when booting.

The manual says of NTMNEC, “Some routine took the non-skip return, but did not give an error code by calling NTExxx. This means that the program returned to top level and field NXERR was zero. Determine which routine is failing, and make the error return give an error code.”

Has anybody else seen this? Is there a patch? It’s getting a bit annoying, not to mention that it keeps crash dumping.

Thanks,
Bob

The biggest cause of problems in emulation of old processors using
new ones, is that things run faster than ever expected. A favorite one
is I/O, where the system expected to do some I/O operation, and that
it would then be a significant time before the I/O interrupt occured.

Many emulators do synchronous I/O, where it happens in no time,
as seen by the emulated system.

I would have expected, though, that those would have been found
already, at least those that happen reliably. Otherwise, how many
are running networking on their emulated KS-10 system?

I think Bob may be running KLH10 rather than SimH, so could easily be on a
KL-10 system.

Thanks, Rich, but no - simh KS10. DECnet is via KDP emulation, which is a bit inconvenient but otherwise works pretty well.
