On Openmandriva 4.1, I updated Firefox to 85.0.1 and afterwards, cannot access any site with https
I had used Falkon browser an hour befoer update, and that is now broken too. Then installed Chrome and same shiyit.
So it isn't one of those clear-cache/disable add-ons fixes.
Date and time are correct. Assorted error messages such as
sec error no token,
err cert authority invalid,
ssl error encryption failure
I cannot see show Firefox would bugger up other browsers

How about doing your updates of your system?

Current system is Mageia 8.0.

Lots of files have changed in the interval.

I used Mageia 4.1 for a short time after Mandriva 11 would
not work on my system and that was about 7 years back.

Maybe that is why you did not post to alt.os.linux.mageia?

Openmandriva is still an active distribution. Changing distribution due to one
bug is a bit extreme.

The update to firefox 85 likely included an update to nss.

Pedro, it may be due to mozilla removing support for sites signed using
the key from symantec.

I have Mageia 8.0 on another PC, plus a few other latest distros. I kept OM at 4.1 because I need something with gcc 9 for software testing, and it has been very nice to use until this annoyance

But hasn't Chromium the same problem? Then don't blame Firefox. Sounds
like a/some broken Linux libs both browsers use.

Had a similar problem months ago. With Chromium *and* Firefox no web page
(not only HTTPS) would work and all add-ons crashed when starting
Chromium. I also have Falkon and GNOME WEB installed as browsers, but they
kept working. After waiting for weeks the problem with Chromium and FX
went away at the same time after an update in Linux.

It sounds like your TLS libraries are outdated and
don't support the algorithms deemed safe by modern browsers.

Mozilla provides nss, which is used by firefox and most other browsers.
Updates for nss are usually provided by mozilla at the same time as updates for
firefox. The nss update includes any changes for root certs.

Does Chrom(e/ium) use NNS? Because Pedro mentioned both browsers failed
to work at the same time.

What ever the cause, I'd would wait it out and update the system
frequently. Am sure a future update of the Linux packages will solve all
of these problems. As it did for me months ago. In the meantime, try to
use other GUI browsers available in Linux, like Falkon and may be GNOME
WEB, if Pedro uses GNOME as desktop manager.

Similar issues in Winders with recent update - FF says
site "not private", some TLS/SSL sort of issue, and offers
no way around the alleged problem. A vaguely similar,
though circumventable, complaint in Chrome too. Wonder
how much codebase they share ?

Does not affect ALL sites - seems to be those with self-signed
certs.

Sounds like last year when they broke almost every plugin ...

I *wonder* if, in response to the recent wave of cyberattacks,
they are trying to tighten-up things - and haven't gotten it right
quite yet ? Sorry, but evil or not users HAVE to have a way
to greenlight "bad" sites/devices. WAY too much "legacy"
stuff out there that NOBODY is gonna change.
