52G8749 IDE Hard Drive Cable required with all above IDE drives, see
note below.

NOTE 1: The original hard drives in the Memorex Telex units were SCSI
drives and the cable connected to the riser card. The replacements for
these drives are all IDE drives and will require the additional IDE
cable (P/N 52G8749) to connect them to the REPLY system board. Use the
following instructions to replace a SCSI drive with an IDE hard drive in
a Memorex Telex unit:

- remove the old SCSI drive and cable (connected to Riser card)
- install new IDE drive in bracket, connect one end of IDE cable to the
hard drive and the other end to the system board at J14 located between
connector J15 for the floppy drive and the memory on the system board.
-the 2 wire cable for the hard drive LED is NOT used on the IDE drives
- then run auto config. with Reply reference diskette to have the system
recognize the new drive. REMEMBER that on completion of your repair,
you must change the first 2 NCI adapter selections to LOCAL IPL and
DISKETTE DISABLE for 4702 attached devices or they will be unable to
communicate with the 4702.
*****************************IMPORTANT NOTE*************************
-you MUST partition a new drive before BNS can run LAPLINK. You must use
DOS 5.0 minimum to create single Primary Dos partition maximum extent.
Do NOT format the drive this will be done by BNS using the LAPLINK
program. There is a DOS 7 Util diskette available for this purpose that
can be downloaded to your laptop. It is called UTILDISK PACKAGE avail-
able under STATES. There is also a FLASH PACKAGE which has the UPGDBIOS
image which can be used to update the flash bios on the REPLY system
boards to 1.32 if you have a downlevel or corrupt bios. The bios is the
same one used for the IBM Model 55 SX upgrade system boards.

If you do an autoconfiguration on the Memorex Telex PCs with a SCSI drive
installed you may need to set Slot 4 settings back to the following:
DMA Arbitration Level : Level 5
DMA Burst Pacing Interval: 24 Microseconds

******* Until further notice on IBM RETE & HOST units order the
size of hard drive you find in the unit. These will be
standard non-preloaded hard drives. BNS/MT staff are
required to reload both these units. As of July 25th, 1995
you may also order non-preloaded drives for PRVE, PRVF and
CBNK configurations AS LONG as there is a SECOND similarly
configured PC in the branch that can be used to restore
data via the LAPLINK function. You will still have to order
the appropriate PRE-LOADED drive if this a single unit to a
branch with no second similar configured device.
