1. Does the xntpd "-x" option prevent the system clock from going backwards to adjust to NTP time, or does it limit it to only go backwards at small intervals?

2. Does the slewalways prevent the system clock from going backwards?

3. If we have a negative drift in the ntp.drift file, is that something that would be adjusted many times across each second, or would it adjust as needed when it has drifted to the point of say 1 millisecond off?

4. What's the difference between NTP slew mode and step mode?

5. What is the slow/step threshold value in AIX?

Thanks,
Wael

If it's really called "xntpd" it's mostly version 3. With version 4,
xntpd was renamed to ntpd.

Also, v4 only refers to the protocol version, but the behavior of the
program depends on the program version.

So what is the outoput of the command

ntpq -c 'rv 0 version'
