I put it on my computer in case for some reason it leaves the Web.

That page is what I needed to learn more than just encrypting a simple email.

I never noticed that page. If I had , I wouldn't have posted my thank-
you remarks to him here. I come across great reference pages like that
every now and then and copy them for my own use. What can I say?

I have no intention of using them for any benefit of my own except for
learning from them.

Do not copy it. Merely save a bookmark (favorite) to it. That way, you
will not miss any changes I might make.

That's what Microsoft does a lot, and it's highly annoying. (To say
"I can't be held responsible for what I did" is disingenuous at
best.) Both Microsoft, and the page quoted, could eliminate the
annoyance by adding redirects in their server. It's one line per
redirect in the .htaccess file on Apache servers, and I can't imagine
it's much worse in IIS or whatever Microsoft uses for servers now.

I think the objection is to copying a page and posting it on your
website, not to saving it to your own local PC. The problem with
copying it and putting it up publicly is that your copy will go out
of date as changes are made to the original, so people who look at
your website won't see what the actual author intends.

www.archive.org/web does that, but when you search for a saved page
you get the whole historical record.

As you said, it probably will be updated by the actual owner, whereas
the reposter probably will never update them.

I've seen too many really great sites disappear for many reasons. I
wanted this one for my own continued learning and renewing my poor
memory. They are so clearly written and easily understood, which is
not true of a lot of such sites.

Yes, I do know about sites like the Wayback Machine, but with some
pages so useful I want to make sure I have them in case they don't
make the archives for whatever reason.

And Ross did not throw a shite fit as some would have. Which was nice.
