There was a cheap Canon Pixma MG2550S printer/scanner on offer at Lidl
today. Having had a lot of problems with a Pixma ip3000 when I moved to
Linux from Windows, and knowing Canon's poor record supporting Linux, I
thought I'd have a look to see if there were any drivers. Take your pick...

From
<https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mg_series/pixma_mg2550.html?type=drivers&language=en&os=linux%20(64-bit)>

"Available Drivers (6):

MG2500 series ScanGear MP Ver. 2.20 for Linux (debian Packagearchive)

Release date: 05 September 2013
This software is a scanner driver for Canon color image scanners.

MG2500 series IJ Printer Driver Ver. 4.00 for Linux (debian Packagearchive)
File version: 4.00
Release date: 05 September 2013
This software is a printer driver for printing using the Canon IJ printer. "

(rpm and source file drivers are also available, making six in total.)

More importantly than what canon says IMO, it isn't in the CUPS database.

I remember a time where some/most printer could emulate Epson

It's a five year old printer. So the sale is probably EOL lot clearance.

It looks like bodgery. The ink is not supposed to be economical. Print quality good,
because it pauses for the page to dry.

Google is not returning many pages of results right now, so that's
it for the "well".

Yep, Network-connected ones will basically all implement one (or all) of
PCL, LPR/LPD, or HP's JetDirect.

Well I spend/wasted a lot of time trying to get canon printers
working. Eventually it works, ( so far ) but I wouldn't buy
Canon myself.
Otoh, Lidl has a good customer policy, it it doesn't work
or you don't like it, return it.
Worst case, you wasted a lot of time.
