Last night at about 10pm, the latest update to Windows 10 was in the process of being installed. At
about 6.30 am this morning it said the PC needed to be restarted so I restarted it myself. Since I
had the active hours set to 6:00 to 0:00, why didn't it restart during the non-active hours?

The other odd thing is that it says "based on your daily activity, we recommend using the following
active hours: from 20:00 to 13:00" which makes no sense at all as I normally use the PC in the
mornings and evenings.

My evening starts earlier than 8pm. I never use the PC between midnight and 6am.

If Windows is making an assumption, why does it say its recommendation is based on my daily
activity?

probably it's god awful sampling logic has gone astray just like other things in MS. I'm only taking stabs at this. I don't know, and I
rarely have taken that stat for any value, I just put in what I want.

I've never found the logic to be paying too much attention to the setting.
I would have times I would be waiting for it to download stuff, and it
would wait until 8AM or so for the next step. And that had nothing to
do with the active hours choices.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-updates-when-you-re-away-from-your-pc-with-active-hours-in-windows-09b5376c-7647-4361-1423-c29aa692a8c4#WindowsVersion=Windows_10

You can manually set the hours, or it can automatically determine the
active hours, but it's mainly a Fisher-Price BusyBox interface.

I've had the machine wake up in the middle of the night, realize
there was nothing to do... and then forget to go back to sleep.
Later, they at least got the going-back-to-sleep thing fixed.

Still later, Windows Update became less and less aggressive. Like now,
you practically have to open Settings and go visit the thing, to
discover there is an update waiting in there. I wouldn't think an active
hour would make a bit of difference, if the aggression has been
turned down.
