Comcast claims it will no longer work with Eudora on March 31, 2023??

I just tested Comcast email with my version of Eudora 7.1 and the test
message came back from Comcast claiming Eudora will no longer work
with their email system on March 31, 2023.

Any workarounds besides changing to another email program or using
their web interface?

What does Comcast mean by "no longer work with their email
system"?

Are they intending to block Eudora?
... End "plain old post" (POP) email?

I have used BlueMail and Thunderbird on some friends computers who
could not get Yahoo and Bellsouth.net emails to work anymore due to
the limits the companies placed on email clients.

I had to change how I got Gmail on Eudora due to changes that Gmail
required. This appears to be happening with many email providers so I
was not surprised to get the notice from Comcast. I consider Comast to
be my 3rd in line email program so it is not big deal.

I am running all the latest patches on Eudora that I know about by the
way.

On my wife's computer there was an issue getting Yahoo.com mail to
load even using the web interface. It would take a long time to load.
There appeared to be some type of issue with the "TLS protocals". By
luck I found if I ran her computer using WiFi, then Yahoo mail would
load fast but as soon as I connected a Cat 6 wired connection it would
take forever to load the web page. I tried all the suggested fixes
that Google suggested and the only solution so to give in an run WiFi
which I hate using on a desktop computer.

On another friend computer I could only get their email to work if I
used Firefox, another other browser would not load the web based email
for Bellsoth.net.

Offical Email I got from Comcast:

Your email application or device needs an update

To help keep your data safe, we are discontinuing the use of outdated
security protocols on March 31, 2023. However, some older devices,
operating systems, and email applications don’t support the newer
security protocols that we rely on to help protect data in transit,
including anything you send through your Comcast.net email.

We've noticed that one of the email applications or devices you're
using to access your Comcast.net email is out of date and is putting
your data at risk. If your device or email application is not updated,
you will not be able to use it to access your Comcast.net email after
March 31, 2023. To check if a specific email application or device
meets our criteria, use it to send a test email to
xfinity-tls-test@alerts.xfinity.com. Also, keep in mind, that you can
always access your Comcast.net email by logging into
connect.xfinity.com through an internet browser.

If you have already taken action and feel you are receiving this email
in error, you may disregard this message or use the self-test option
mentioned above to ensure compliance.

Your email security is important to us. Thanks for helping us protect
your data.

No, they mean they know Eudora only does TLSv1, which has been
replaced by TLSv2, which the Hermes patch will add to Eudora by
completely reinstalling Eudora along with new files that control
SSL/TLS..

HOWEVER, I wouldn't install Hermes. I'd download the following:
https://www.maclean.com/downloads/QCSSL_Update.zip

That's Pete Maclean's SSL patch from last July... the same as the
Hermes patch minus reinstalling all of Eudora. It includes
documentation on how to "install" [copy 3 files] and configure Eudora.
It contains directions for installation. You will need to configure
things correctly in Eudora.

Below are the relevant settings in Eudora.ini that were used for
Comcast email with no problems [some may not be needed? but won't
hurt]. The ones that that are critical are the two .version=9 lines.

[Settings]
SmtpAuthAllowed=1
UseSubmissionPort=1
SSLReceiveUse=2
SSLSendUse=3
SSLReceiveVersion=9
SSLSendVersion=9
SSLAltPortReceiveVersion=0
SSLAltPortSendVersion=0

The above is not my work... it was "stolen" from a post by George

I wonder if they're following Google's lead and going to start to

Really? Before switching to using Pandora I didn't have to reinstall
Eudora to update the SSL library.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesmail/files/HermSSL.zip/download

Contains ONLY the SSL libraries, and instructions for how to install it so
that Eudora makes use of the change.
