Fully updated Dell Latitude E6330, Windows 10. 2021 TurboTax Deluxe
won't install from either the internal CD/DVD or an external USB one.

On insertion, disk spins up, asks if I want to setup, get dialog box to
let TT make changes on drive, hit Yes, disk spins about 20-25 seconds
then stops. Nothing further happens.

TT installed OK on a Mac and other software from DVDs installs just fine
on the Dell.

Tried Install As Administrator, virus program halted, etc., no
difference-- as with all other suggestionsvfrom Google searches.

Any ideas?

There is more than one edition of TurboTax.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

Might work to uninstall then reinstall.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/corp/license/desktop.jsp

I didn't read all the legalese on licensing to determine under what
conditions they might expire, cancel, or suspend a license. You
probably need an online account even if you don't use their webclient.
Did you try logging into your online account?

Apparently you can download the installer from their site; see:

https://accounts-tax.intuit.com/turbotaxdesktop

Log into your account, and download. Maybe your disc is defective.

Since you paid for TurboTax Deluxe, call their support.

https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact/

There is a community (aka forum) for users, but an account is required
to visit there (and I'm not creating an account just to check if their
community discusses this problem).

It is #FJB's "Progressive" administration's way of telling you to not pay
taxes this year. If IRS singles you out, just tell them "no comprende; no
ingless" and they'll point you to the free housing, free food, free medical
care, and welfare lines, then release you on a pinkie-swear to report back
to "court" [a lawyer under contract to the federal government as an
'Administrative Law Magistrate'] in about 5 or 6 years, depending on the
status of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time...

If you don't show up, and get caught for something else, then referred back
to IRS, just say " "no comprende; no ingless"...

See the pattern here?

Hope this helps. And welcome to America.

I had problems with Turbotax installation the past two years (19 & 20).
I haven't installed it yet for this year as I'm waiting for the Costco sale.

I use TurboTax and have used it every year for the past two decades.
1. In the past two years, they _changed_ the licensing scheme.
2. Even with a valid key, it will only work on the Internet.
3. As far as I can tell, _each time_ you run the thing, it phones home.
Even if it phoned home the last hundred times & everything was the same.

Any one key will only work on one machine also, as far as I am aware.
So I assume you used a _different_ product key for the Mac than for Win10?

Two years ago I couldn't get TurboTax to install.
I called their 800 number which is pretty helpful.
They'll use a remote desktop manager to confirm the problem.

Then they will give you a _new_ license and a new installation package.
At least they did that for me.

It _still_ didn't install (so I gave it away to my kids).
The problem two years ago for me was they don't like a computer set up
privately such that they have something hard coded to expect you to use the
defaults on "something".

When I put the same Turbotax from the last two years (both years) which
wouldn't install on my desktop to my wife's laptop, they each installed.

I didn't learn this until after they gave me the free license key though.
What I concluded was (a) they are being Draconian about licensing and (b)
they employed idiot coders who (c) must have something hard coded that (d)
doesn't like when everything in the PC isn't in the default location.

It's going on now through 20 January, in-warehouse and online. $10

Several years ago I bought the Deluxe CD when it first came out (w.
discounts). It installed properly but didn't run correctly. A later
version/revision - downloaded off the web as I recall - fixed
everything. Perhaps your disk is an (undeclared) beta version.

Two suggestions:

Create if not already done your Intuit Turbo Tax account, follow the
options to download from the web. Enter the product key/license code
provided in the TTax 21 CD/Download package, download to local
folder(suggest a new folder on the device. Sign off your Intuit
account, install from the download folder, follow the prompts to install
and activate.

Optionally(since not necessary to install from the CD(internal or
external drive).
- just copy the contents of the entire cd to a folder on the device.
Your cd for Deluxe 2021 should have a setup.exe in the root directory,
plus a folder named TurboTax 2021 and within that folder two files -
config.xml and TurboTax 2021 Installer.exe.
Once copied, double click on the setup.exe file(not the installer.exe
file)
Enter you license code when prompted to install and activate the
software. Create your account when prompted if not already done, logon
to your account if prompted.

Note: The second option assumes that you don't have a bad or damaged CD
(copying files from a damaged cd may or may not work).

The only choices I see at this URL are versions I've paid for and used
in prior years including my state taxes choices. It doesn't seem to be a
place to get a version then get license elsewhere.

If you bought the license from TurboTax, it should be listed in your TT
account. If you bought it elsewhere, it probably won't show in your TT
account until after the install, and linking the install to your
account. Since the install hangs, you can't get the license you bought
from a 3rd party linked to your TT account.

In case the installer pauses to register your license, do you have
Internet access and can reach the TT site at the time of the install?

Does a web browser load at any point during the installation? If so,
disable all the extensions you added to the web browser, and retry the
install.

Find anything in the error logs (eventvwr.msc) at the time you tried to
run the install, but got hung?

Have you tried an install after disabling all startup programs, and
doing a reboot?

I hadn't had any problems and I hadn't procured TT 2021 yet. I thought I
might go to your URL and download the software, guaranteeing a latest
image, then go buy a license to activate it. Thus, avoiding stale stuff
on a retailer's shelf. That did not work as I reported above.

What I did next was buy a DL copy at Amazon and install it with
absolutely no problems. It picked up last year's return, forwarded info
and was ready to go. Your post was slightly ambiguous, at least to me,
so I was just warning others that it might not be what it sounded like.

In any event, thanks for the information: I know you were trying to be
helpful.

Happy holiday.

I ended up getting a new laptop and in preparation to passing on the old
Dell to a family member, I wiped the drive and reinstalled Win 10 pro.

After I did, out of curiosity I inserted the TurboTax disk into the DVD
drive and don't you know- the install program loaded and started to do
its thing!

Guess the problem was some kind of software/OS glitch that a fresh
install took care of...

Does Turbotax have schedule D yet? (cap gains)

I heard Schedule D is still missing.

Is it?

It's there in my install of TT Deluxe on a Mac.
