Why, hello there. I didn't see you when I came in. You'll have to
pardon me; I'm just dropping by to leave the keys to these games. It's
just something I do 'round this time of year; giving gifts and
hopefully making everybody a little happier. I don't know if it's
working, but I can't but try. Stick around, maybe one of these games
will appeal to you!

So, let's take a look. Here in box #1 we have "Vikings: Wolves of
Midgard". Ooh, it's a bit gory; don't even consider it if you're under
18 (or, if you do, don't tell your parents where you got it). It's a
top-down single-player action-RPG set in a fantastical Norse-inspired
universe. Look, here's the how you get it: just use 500 a2rb98b7 jaw 2
and you'll be set. It's not the most sophisticated example of the
genre, but if you're in the mood for some Viking-themed
hacking-n-slashing, start chopping away at "Wolves of Midgard".

Did you like that one? Yes? No? Well, let's see how you feel about
what is in box #2. Oh, wow; it's "SpaceCom", or more precisely it is
0gtip3 xihx lphia which unlocks "SpaceCom". No Vikings in this one; no
blood either. It's a 4X-strategy space game in the vein of "Master of
Orion". It's purposefully stripped-to-the-bone, with minimized
aesthetics but still full-featured gameplay. In truth, it started as a
mobile game but don't necessarily take that as a negative. You may not
get weeks or months of play out of a campaign, but if you want a quick
bout of 'conquer the universe', here's a game for you.

So did you like that one? Maybe? Tell ya what; I'm gonna just leave
both boxes here and head on out; I've places to go and people to see.
You decide if either of these games suit your mood. Either way, you
have a great day and - who knows - maybe we'll see each other again
tomorrow.

I will pass on both. Good luck to whoever gets them assuming they have
not been snatched up already.

I got this one... happy happy joy joy

I like space adventure type games, started with Elite on Atari ST I
think it was. Also enjoyed the Star Trek games around the TNG and Voy
era.

See if this gets me back into the genre.

Thank you for posting. I think Spalls gets discouraged when no one
posts that they took his freebie. I like his giveaways and I want him
to keep doing it. ;)

Me too!

I have to say, the claim rate for some of these games was rather
discouraging; there are about ten games that haven't been taken yet
(or, at least, nobody has announced they've taken them). :-(

I'll still likely repeat the give-away next year, if only to clear out
my cache of unused keys. I probably won't have as many games to offer,
though; you all benefitted from the fact that I wasn't here last
December and basically got two years of games in single month.

Nonetheless, regardless of the disappointing lack of greed and
hoarding, I had fun. Whenever people did claim a game, I knew I'd
brought them a little bit of joy, and just writing up the descriptions
was an interesting challenge (try working a serial number into a
game's description without being so obvious about it that bots can
pick it up, it's not so easy!).

We all should do it with our unwanted game keys!

His quality posts, the effort put into the prose and wording are
entertaining to read and makes me think about contributing more where I
can.

I am using the 'launchers' more than ever now I have games in them! If I
get keys, not sure how you do that, will for sure share with this group.

Aww, you gon' make me blush!

Still, it's nice to be appreciated, even if I'm not sure it's entirely
deserved. I know I tend to go overlong in my responses (this post is
case in point). There's no poetry to my writing; I'm very matter of
fact, with a distinct lack of metaphor, and often my writing comes out
like a long list (well, given the day job that's no surprise but it
doesn't make for beautiful prose).

I honestly envy people in this newsgroup who can write a concise
reply. "What do you like about GameX", people ask, and I type out a
three-hundred word diatribe. Then somebody else says the same thing in
one paragraph. How do they do that?!? I literally cannot write a
simple one-line "me too" response; I /have/ to add extra text. I know;
I've tried.

I often wonder if my extensive vocabulary makes me sound like a bit of
a pompous ass. You know the type; the sort who uses big words just to
sound smart. That's not me; I use lots of big words just because I
hate using the same word over and over again. (I've used 'word' four
times in this paragraph, and you do cannot know how much that bugs
me). ;-)

I worry that I'm responding too much (especially this December; at
least a third of this months' posts are mine). I honestly don't want
to dominate the conversation; I just want to stimulate it, but how to
do that if I don't reply? As much as I already comment in this
newsgroup, it's half of what I'd like to; I hold myself back from
hitting the 'reply' button as often as I actually push it. If you make
a reply and I don't comment back, it's not because I don't have
something to say - it should be fairly obvious I /always/ have
something to say! - but because I've hit my self-appointed daily limit
of responses. So many people make interesting comments in this
newsgroup that I don't answer because I feel my constant presence
would diminish their contributions.*

And - oh God - the spelling errors and missing words and inappropriate
apostrophes and my generally awful sentence structure. Damn whomever
it was that introduced me to semi-colons and hyphenated asides and
parentheticals! I work hard so that - technically - none of my
sentences are run-on sentences, but they do go on a while, don't they?

But I do try to make my writing somewhat engaging. I tend towards a
very personal, honest and self-deprecating conversational style that I
hope negates some of the pain of my long-winded, list-like tendencies,
and hey, if my overzealous vocabulary means you learn a new word from
me every now and then, all the better! But I am well aware that my
mode of writing isn't well suited for modern Internet tastes, which
trends towards shorter, more easily read snippets. My writing takes
more brain power to decipher, not because it's saying anything
particularly heady, but because it's just so damned convoluted. I pity
anyone who actually reads my posts in full; don't they have better
things to do? ;-)

>Spalls the life blood of the group :-)

Nah. More like the lymph fluid; that gross stuff that helps keep an
organism alive and you're technically glad it's there, even if you
mostly ignore it in favor of the more interesting stuff like blood 'n'
guts 'n' hearts 'n' brains. ;-)

Don't be too hard on yourself. I find your writings a pleasure to read - in full!
It might not be poetry (and frankly most attempts at that are far more
pretentious garbage that doesn't parse easily.) Your words have a flow that's
conversationally easy to follow while not being the intelligence draining
peckings of apparent twelve year-olds found elsewhere. It's a refreshing
and welcome respite in fact.

The clever humor while I don't usually LOL, brings a smile and helps keep
me entertained enough to read it all.

The length and frequency is right at the upper edge of what I'm willing to
read (most times,) so your instincts there are right. Keep it up, but don't
try to be more prolific ;)

We did manage to get along without you for the time you were gone,
but the newsgroup was the lesser without you.

I can only hope to aspire to your level of writing.

I hope you feel validated now :P

This is a good problem to have. I couldn't help but Google-stalk you,
sorry!

I see you have tried other platforms like blogging and Twitter! Can't
imagine how you managed with 140 character limits :-)

Ohmigosh, my experimental Twitter phase; I'd forgotten about that. It
was mostly to promote my quickly abandoned blog (I liked the blog, but
it was more effort than it was worth, what with having to supplement
it with pictures and html. Usenet is just words; so much simpler ;-).

But you're right; I hated Twitter. I didn't see the point, except to
direct people to the blog. I didn't keep up with it very long
(honestly, I'm surprised it's still up; I don't know if I even
remember my log-in details), and don't read it or 'follow' anyone on
it. It's a worthless service to me.

Twitter seems to work for that and other publications too, I use Twitter
as a kind of news aggregate. Science news mostly, Quanta magazine and
others. The "discussions" there are mostly incomprehensible. It's like
there's so much context outside twitter it feels like you hear maybe a
tenth of a conversation.

I am the same, I think scattered around the interwebs I have Twitter,
Facebook, MySpace, Blogger.com, and many services I have long forgotten.

Content generation is time consuming, and you have to keep posting daily
or even more often for the algos to even see you.
