Is it a word normally used in the USA or only in European sports?
What is it?

https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-news-02-27-22/h_8fa4df2e14f3ed86f42a09732d2fd6cc
In coordination with UEFA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the
Bureau of the FIFA Council ruled that all of Russia's home fixtures in
international competitions must be played on neutral territory and without
spectators.

FIFA announced on Sunday that Russia must play all upcoming international
fixtures on neutral sites under the name football union of Russia, as part
of an initial list of sanctions due to the country's invasion of Ukraine.

FIFA rules Russia must play in neutral sites with no flag, anthem or
spectators allowed

Apparently it's a word having to do with football.

The expression "home fixture" was foreign in US the until recently. TV
coverage of foreign sports events has widen our vocabularies. Twenty
years ago, it denoted a lamp or bathroom sink or etc

That was certainly the usage I know - and hadn't heard of any
connection with European football.

Note to any North American planning on visiting the UK: if you go
during a major tournament and go to a pub you will be expected to
choose a team to cheer for. I went during the 2016 European cup
tournament when there were separate teams from England and Northern
Ireland and rooting for either was socially acceptable though god help
the North American who adopted the Russians or worse yet the French!

(Somebody asked me why Northern Ireland and I said 'because my
forebears are from there and still have cousins there - and are flying
to Belfast next weekend to visit their graves...." which satisfied him
despite my obvious North American accent)
