Hi All,

Okay, whilst you are waiting for a disk scan,
an virus scan, a YUGE download, here is what
you do:

Squirrels in Space
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG9n7ymR4z4

The fun starts a 0:59

Lots of slow motion from several angles. You
can almost hear the squirrels yelling "OH S***!".
And when they land and run back for more, you can
almost hear them yelling "AGAIN! AGAIN!"

-T

Do you not have Spider solitaire, and Mahjong on your computer? That is
what they are there for, to help you kill time when things like that happen.
Also the are used when your computer crashes and you are restarting it
or you have a major upgrade, you use them to confirm everything is
working as it should.

Didn't watch the video. I know squirrels can fall from great heights
without damage, like when felling trees. The run along power lines, and
fall off neither electrocuted or from the fall. Besides the weight to
surface ratio (i.e., how must air resistance they have when falling
versus the gravity pulling on them), their tails also act like a
parachute.

Humans have a terminal velocity of 124 mph. Squirrels have a terminal
velocity of 23 mph. Humans have a lot higher mass than squirrels
regarding their impact on hitting the ground. Squirrels can survive
falls at their terminal velocity. Humans won't. Squirrels may incur
some damage, like broken fingers, feet, or legs, but they survive.
That's why they can run along power lines or cables, or branches of
overhanging trees, to drop onto a bird feeder to make a mess throwing
out all but the sunflower seeds. While there are feeders claiming to be
squirrel proof, you also need to position them where squirrels can't
fall onto them.

https://medium.com/swlh/why-a-squirrel-would-never-die-from-falling-no-matter-how-high-it-falls-bd2dfb44e231

As for the squirrels doing it again, haven't you ever noticed that
squirrels play the "Who got closer to the car" game? They run across
the street seeing who can get closer, like getting the tails snagged
under the tires which temporarily halts their running until the tire
rolls off their tail. Seems they sit by the side of the road waiting
for a car to play the game. Occasionally you'll see one that lost.

Squirrels are built for falling out of trees, so
being pitch so high is probably fun for them.

You should watch the video. It is hysterical.

I can see the funny side of it, but some of those squirrels crash into
trees. In my country the RSPCA would be called in.
Is the launching automatic? Weight-loaded? If so, then some poor cat or
other animal might have been flung to its grave.

They are not harmed by it. They are designed for it.
They fall out of trees all the time all by themselves.
Flying into a tree is a great landing for them. They
do it all the time. And if you did not notice, they
ran back for more. A good time was had by all.

A human pull a cord when the squirrel is in
proper position. It is all monitored by video.

Squirrels are extremely agile and intelligent. If some religio-freak
ever tells you that the universe is fine-tuned to produce us, then tell
them no! it's either dolphins or squirrels.

Here is Squirrel Maze 1.0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFZFjoX2cGg
It is my favorite of the two.
It is astounding just how creative and intelligent
squirrels are. Hysterical a times too.

That's funny. I went on Youtube looking for a video of a really
elaborate squirrel maze covering a whole backyard, and when i found
it, it's exactly the URL you posted.

Anyone who hasn't seen this, it's really worth the time to watch it.
The human is really ingenious, but watching the squirrels deal with
the obstacles is fascinating.

I'll bet that we look hysterical to squirrels.
We look hysterical to me, so it's highly likely that we look hysterical
to higher intelligence.

Their intelligence and creativity is astounding.

The guy doing the videos does a great job of
presenting too.

As far as I can tell, evolution(*) has done a much better job of
producing insects. (That's if you don't count viruses and bacteria.)

(*)I cannot understand at all how _anyone_ can still deny evolution.
We've all lived through textbook examples in the past two years.

Hi Stan,

Do not use the term "deny". It is a religious
term not a scientific term. And evolution is
a scientific term, not a religious term.
