I've got a code as well. I was going to claim it but on the grounds I'll
probably never play it why not give it away.

I also love your solution to 'beat the bots' with your innovative
method of hiding the key. It's quite clever. I may have to steal it.

Heh. I'm hardly going to complain at a good rant, especially such a
reasonable and polite one as yours. It's easy to get frustrated with
computers and sometimes you can't help but need to let out your
aggravations with a well-intentioned diatribe (I'm no stranger to it
myself, as many here can attest).

I'm not really a fan of GOG Galaxy myself, although I've not had
anywhere near the problems you've had with it. I just find it slow and
its interface less than stellar. But then, I rarely use it, preferring
to download the stand-alone installers from the website. Even when I
do use it to install the game, that's /all/ I use it for, then
preferring to launch the game executable directly. Fortunately, GOG at
least offers that as an alternative, something that can't be said for
all clients.

I have found that it is usually not worth it to install the
latest-n-greatest drivers for your video-card, unless a game
specifically requires it or you have the latest-n-greatest hardware to
match. Newer drivers tend to be less optimized for older hardware, and
often add bloat and unwanted add-ons too.
