So, it sounds like it far from being actually usable.

This is some sort of beta release project?

Hmm, old Wget has documentation in the standard extensive set of
formats for a GNU project:
http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/

Wget2's documentation link requires Javascript in order to display:
https://gnuwget.gitlab.io/wget2/reference/

So you can't Wget the Wget2 documentation (or view it in the web
browser that I prefer). GNU projects were about the last major
centre of maintained software with convenient (for me) websites,
so that really does piss me off, besides being rather ironic.

As for the software itself, if they wanted to drop protocols,
rewrite the code from scratch, and change behaviour, while
genuinely intending to still maintain old Wget, then why call
it a successor to the previous Wget?

If they want to emphasise the HTTP2 support then W2get would be
more appropriate, and suit their own horrible web presence as well.

That seems to be internal API documentation. The user manual is a
markdown file.

I see, they must mean Libwget "online documentation", though that's
hardly made clear.

> The user manual is a markdown file.

That seems to be a regular man page, which isn't equivalent to the
usual Texinfo documentation as in the old Wget link. You also need
JS in order to view that online at their site:
https://gitlab.com/gnuwget/wget2/-/blob/master/docs/wget2.md
